Florida District 9 Champion Caitlin Ahern Commits To Louisville

Caitlin Ahern, who recently helped Saint Thomas Aquinas High School sweep Florida’s District 9 High School Championships, has verbally committed to swim for the University of Louisville, for the 2015-2016 season. “I absolutely love the coaching staff, team, and facilities. On my visit, everyone made me feel completely at home and like I was already a part of their family. I’m so excited for the opportunity to be a Cardinal,” said Ahern.

Last weekend, Ahern won the 100 Breast at the Florida District 9 High School Championships, with a time of 1:07.73. She also split 30.76, as the breaststroke leg of STA’s winning 200 Medley Relay. Ahern represents Swim Fort Lauderdale and is a recent transplant from Illinois. She specializes in breaststroke and has qualified for Winter Nationals in the 100.

Ahern’s Best Times

(SCY)

50 Breast: 29.25

100 Breast: 1:03.93

200 Breast: 2:20.49

She Is Improving

Ahern’s best times have all come from her junior season, which indicates that she is not slowing down. She dropped nearly two seconds in the 100 Breast and six seconds in the 200 Breast in her junior season alone. Louisville, who will be competing at the ACC Championships in 2015, will possibly have Ahern scoring in the 100 Breast (C Final). Ahern’s 200 Breast is not quite at the scoring level yet and her 50 Breast is not speedy enough to contribute to the 200 Medley Relay. However, Ahern is developing well and could improve her times to be at the ACC scoring level by the end of her senior season, which is good news for the Cardinals.
