Florida Grabs Commitment From York YMCA Freestyler Daniel Gordon

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey

Daniel Gordon, a native of East Berlin, Pennsylvania, has announced his commitment to join the University Florida Gators as a member of their class of 2022.

Gordon attends Spring Grove Senior High school and swims at the York and York County YMCA, the same club that produced current Florida star Leah Braswell. Gordon is a USA Swimming All-American and a current US Open qualifier.

Gordon posted the announcement on his Instagram account:

“After a unique and challenging year for my recruiting class, I’m proud to announce that l’ve made a verbal commitment to the University of Florida! I’ve dreamed of being a Gator since I was a kid, and I’m super excited to work hard to reach my highest potential in the pool, classroom and life. l’d like to thank God as well as my family, coaches and friends for their patience and support during this process. l’d also like to thank Coaches Nesty, Jungbluth and Szaranek for believing in me. Go Gators!🐊🐊”

Gordon most recently represented York at the Middle Atlantic Senior Championships, where he made finals in all 5 of his events. At the meet, Gordon posted personal bests in the long course 100 freestyle (53.21), 200 freestyle (1:57.16), 50 butterfly (26.28), and 100 butterfly (56.77).

Although Gordon is traditionally a sprint freestyle swimmer, his butterfly has made major strides recently, as he has brought his best time all the way down to 49.93. Since the coronavirus lockdown, Gordon has posted best times in every short course event except the 400 IM, having brought his personal best in the 50 freestyle down to 20.23 as well.

Best SCY Times

  • 50 Freestyle – 20.23
  • 100 Freestyle – 45.06
  • 200 Freestyle – 1:39.98
  • 100 butterfly – 49.93

Last season, Florida was led in the sprint freestyle events by Adam Chaney and Eric Friese, the latter of whom won the B-final of the 50 freestyle at the 2021 NCAA Championships. Florida was a dominant sprint force in the SEC last season, winning the conference relay title in the 200 freestyle relay, while placing second to Alabama in the 400 freestyle relay. The Florida men also swept the freestyle titles at the 2021 US Olympic Trials meet, with Caeleb Dressel (50, 100), Kieran Smith (200, 400), and Bobby Finke (800, 1500) each claiming two titles.

Gordon’s best time in the 50 would have ranked him 5th on Florida’s roster last season, with 3 of the swimmers ahead of him expected to graduate prior to his arrival on campus.

Although Gordon’s best times are slightly off of what it took to score at the SEC Championships last season, he still has another year left to improve them before even starting his college career.

With his commitment, Gordon joins Cam Abaqueta, Dawson Joyce, and Giovanni Linscheer in Florida’s class of 2026.
