Class 4A District Meet Highlights
Buchholz sophomore Talia Bates was a double district champion with the fastest times we’ve seen so far at any district meet in the 50 free and 100 fly. Her 50 free time of 23.25 is an automatic All-American time. In the 100 fly, she matched her personal best time with a 56.06 to lead the pack heading into the region 1 meet.
Also going to the region 1 meet is Fleming Island’s Nick Hackett, who set himself up as the top seed in the 100 fly and 200 free after winning both district titles. Hackett nearly cleared the 50 second barrier in the 100 fly, posting a 50.36 in that race. His 1:44.28 in the 200 free was also good for a district title.
Robert Finke, a junior for Countryside, leads the region 2 boys with his times in the 200 IM and 500 free. Finke’s district-winning time of 4:35.63 in the 500 free puts him as the top seed by over 7 seconds. He’ll also headline the 200 IM at his region meet with his 1:53.74.
Cooper City’s Kathleen Golding was the fastest 200 IMer of any district meet so far, winning her district title in 2:04.71. That sets her up as the top seed by nearly ten seconds as she heads to the region 4 meet. She also set herself up as the top region 4 seed in the 100 fly with her 57.81.
Miami Palmetto’s Roosevelt Malone topped the 50 free and 100 fly fields at his district meet. Malone is the only swimmer out of region 4 to head into the regional meet with a sub-22 time, having won his district with a 21.98. In the 100 fly, he enters with his district-winning time of 53.59.
