Florida HS State Champ Kasey Schmidt Makes Verbal Commitment to Virginia

Olympic Trials qualifier Kasey Schmidt of Bolles School and Bolles School Sharks has verbally committed to swim for the University of Virginia.

“I’m thrilled to announce my decision to attend The University of Virginia!  UVA’s academic reputation and my rapport with the Busch brothers led me to Charlottesville.  But the girls on the team and the area won me over! I appreciate the other incredible opportunities I had and I am grateful to have formed relationships with some amazing athletes and coaches along the way.  Ultimately, I chose to be part of the program that makes me happiest.  I can’t wait to be in Virginia with my team! WAHOOWA!”

Schmidt is the two-time defending 50 yard free champion at the Florida High School Class 1A state meet. She swam the 50 free and all three relays for Bolles sophomore and junior years. She holds the school’s record in the 50 (22.66) and led off the 200 free relay that broke the Bolles and FHSAA State records last year. Schmidt is an 11-time All-American and two-time Scholastic All-American.

As a member of the Bolles School Sharks, 14-year-old Schmidt competed in the 50 free at the 2012 USA Olympic Team Trials. She has qualified for 2016 Trials as well.

Schmidt’s top times include:

50y free: 22.66 50m free: 25.89
100y free: 50.39 100m free: 57.34
200y free: 1:49.60 200m free: 2:05.32
100y fly: 56.75 100m fly: 1:02.87

Schmidt will be part of an already-stellar class that includes commits Eryn Eddy, Megan Moroney, Peyton Baldwin, Rachel Politi, Vivian Tafuto. She should be an immediate-impact player for the Cavaliers, as both her 50 and 100 free times would have put her in the B-finals at the 2014 ACC Championships. In addition, having split 22.17 anchoring Bolles’ medley relay at last year’s FHSAA state meet, she should be a welcomed addition to all Virginia’s relays.
