Florida International Women Sweep FIU Relays

On Saturday, the Florida International University Panthers won the FIU Relays Meet. The meet featured relays and diving events for both men’s and women’s teams, with a unique event line up:

  • 3×100 Fly Relay
  • 3×100 Back Relay
  • 3×100 Breast Relay
  • 800 Free Relay
  • 500 Free Relay (50-100-150-200)
  • 400 Medley Relay
  • 200 Free Relay
  • 3×500 Free Relay
  • 4×100 IM Relay
  • 400 Free Relay
  • 1 Meter Diving
  • 3 Meter Diving

The final women’s team scores were:

  1. FIU -738
  2.  University of Indianapolis -658
  3. William Jewell College- 532
  4. Adelphi -292
  5. Sacred Heart University- 244
  6. Ripon College- 136
  7. Nebraska Wesleyan University- 102

In the women’s competition, FIU took first place in each of the 12 events. Rebecca Quensel, multi-time Conference USA Diver of the Week won the 1 meter (293.3) and had a personal best in the 3-meter (333.50). Quensel was followed by teammates Lily Kaufman and Natalia Coronado in both events.

The FIU delegation took the first two spots and claiming 74 points in the 3×100 fly relay. The “A” team of   Letizia Bertlli, Jenny Alfani and Jenny Deist won by 4 seconds, touching 2:54.98. They also went 1-2 in the 3×100 back relay, with Jessica Piper, Skye Carey and Naomi Ruele won by 11 seconds (2:52.32 to 3:03.76).

Throughout the women’s meet, FIU, University of Indianapolis and William Jewell College were able to sweep the top three spots in each event.

On the men’s side of the competition, Indianapolis won all but one of the events that was contested on the day. The only first place finish that went to a team other than Indianapolis was the 3×500 Free relay, which was won by William Jewell College. Continuing their domination, Indianapolis swept the top two places in both of the diving events. Other teams that had strong showings in the top three included the New Jersey Institute of Tech and Nebraska Wesleyan University.

The host team Panthers will return to action on January 23rd when they take on Florida Gulf Coast.
