Florida Southern Adds U.S. Open Qualifier Michael Tretyakov For 2024-2025

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Michael Tretyakov of Madison, Alabama, has announced his commitment to swim and study at Florida Southern College. Tretyakov, a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, recently graduated from Bob Jones High School and will arrive in Florida this fall for the 2024-2025 season.

I chose Florida Southern because when I toured I really felt at home and felt like I could improve, not only as just a swimmer, but as a person as well. I was welcomed by the team and saw this place as somewhere I could work hard and have fun at the same time. I look forward to my next four years and am so excited for the life long relationships I will establish here.  Go Mocs!”

Tretyakov trains and competes year-round with Huntsville Swim Association. He specializes in backstroke in sprint free, and is currently a U.S. Open qualifier in the 100m backstroke. He also owns a Winter Juniors cut in the 50m free, as well as has Futures standards across the sprint freestyle and backstroke events in short course.

Tretyakov wrapped up his short course season this spring at the NCSA Spring Championships, where he advanced to finals in four of his individual events. His top event was the 100 free, where he secured 14th in finals (52.99, LCM) after hitting a personal best of 45.16 in prelims. He also notched a personal best in the 100m back en route to a 19th place finish (58.14), while in the 200 back he dropped almost three seconds to record a 1:51.59.

In the winter, Tretyakov represented his high school at the Alabama High School State Championship. He secured the individual state title in the 100 backstroke with a personal best of 49.50, a time he later lowered to 49.34 by the end of the season. He was also the 3rd place finisher in the 50 free, where he stopped the clock at 20.61 for another personal best time.

Top SCY Times

  • 50 free – 20.61
  • 100 free – 45.16
  • 100 back – 49.34
  • 200 back – 1:51.59

Florida Southern, located in Lakeland, Florida, is a member of the Division II Sunshine State Conference. Under the direction of head coach Andy Robins, the Mocs finished 3rd out of 7 teams at this year’s conference meet.

Tretyakov’s best time in the 100 backstroke would have put him just one spot shy of the A-final at the 2024 Sunshine State Conference Championships. The event was won by Florida Southern this season, with Brandon Wilson taking 1st in a best time of 47.10. William Eriksson was the next highest finisher in the event at 10th (50.02).

Tretyakov joins Gianni Famiano, Cooper Krance, Tyler King, and Cormac McKenney in the Mocs’ class of 2028.
