Florida State captures two weekly ACC awards for Nov. 25

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Florida State sophomore Chelsea Britt and teammate Katrina Young helped the Seminoles capture two ACC Swimming weekly awards, as each turned in impressive performances at the Georgia Tech Invite. Also earning weekly honors were Duke’s Peter Kropp and North Carolina’s Sean Burston.

Duke’s Kropp, who earned ACC Male Swimmer of the Week honors, secured a trip to the 2015 NCAA Championship over the weekend with a 52.02 swim in the 100 breast. That mark broke the previous ACC record of 52.59 set by Zach Stephens of Notre Dame last season. Kropp was clocked at 1:56.73 in the 200 breast preliminaries, ranking among the top 10 in the country and second on the Blue Devils’ all-time top 10.

North Carolina’s Burston took home the ACC Male Diver of the Week after he swept the diving events at the Nike Cup Invitational. The freshman won the 1-meter with 342.50 points, leading the Tar Heels to a 1-2-3 finish in the event. Burston also took first place in the 3-meter, leading a 1-2-3-4 North Carolina sweep. After scoring 344.30 in the preliminaries, Burston improved by 51 points in the final to win with 395.50 points.

Florida State’s Britt grabbed ACC Female Swimmer of the Week after putting up three individual NCAA B standards and capturing three first place finishes this weekend. Britt swam a career best in the 200 IM on Thursday, posting the second fastest time in school history. Britt took home wins in both of the fly events, touching with a 52.39 in the 100 fly, just four-one hundredths shy of her school record. That swim is the seventh fastest in the nation this year. In the 200 fly, she cruised to a win in 1:57.45.

Florida State’s Young was named ACC Female Diver of the Week after capturing two wins and adding a second place finish this weekend. The redshirt senior put up three NCAA Zone qualifying scores in her first outing of the 2014-15 season, taking the 3-meter with a score of 327.50. After finishing second on the 1-meter, Young rebounded and won her specialty, the platform, with a score of 265.70.
