Florida States Picks Up Four Wins At Annual ‘Paint it Pink’ Contest

Tallahassee, Fla. – The Florida State swimming and diving teams picked up four wins on Friday at the annual ‘Paint it Pink’ contest at Morcom Aquatics Center.

The 24th-ranked men (2-0, 1-0 ACC) defeated Florida Southern, 168-58, while the women (1-1, 0-1 ACC) were victorious over West Florida (200-63), North Florida (203-54) and the Mocs (209-47).

“Two meets in two days is tough but I really like what I saw from our team,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “Today was about the younger student-athletes stepping up and that’s exactly what they did. We had some really great performances across the board.”

The men started the meet off with a win in the 200 medley relay behind Mathew IversonTommaso BaravelliPeter Varjasi and Jokubas Keblys (1:30.52).

The Seminoles swept the next five races, starting with the 1000 free, with Yordan Yanchev (9:27.21) edging his teammate Jack Rowell (9:27.67) for the win.

Utku Kurtdere was the winner in the 200 free (1:38.05) and Andrew Rich grabbed first in the 100 back (48.96). Varjasi placed first in the 100 breast (55.23) and Gustav Olsson led the way in the 200 fly (1:52.33).

Out of the break, Herbet was the winner at 44.43 in the 100 free and Rich placed first in the 200 back (1:49.61).

In the 500 free Jaka Pusnik placed first (4:37.20), followed closely behind by Jack Hall (4:38.01) and Zach Smith (4:39.35) for the sweep.

Varjasi added another win, claiming the 100 fly (48.93) and Matthew Iverson took first in the 200 IM (1:54.40) before FSU finished first in the 200 free relay to end the meet behind Rian CovingtonEli ButtersSam Bork, and Arijus Pavlidi (1:21.90).

In the women’s meet, FSU started with a win in the 200 medley relay behind Jaden HerbetMaddy HugginsJenny Halden and Gabrianna Banks (1:42.89).

FSU started with a one-two  showing in the 1000 free  with Julia Brzozowski  (10:09.44) and Ella Dyjak (10:25.77).  The Seminoles followed with first place finishes in the  200 free (Sarah Evans – 1:53.50) and 100 back (Edith Jernstedt – 56.12).

Maddy Huggins was the winner in the 200 fly (2:02.70) and Maysa Ratiu also grabbed first in the 50 free (23.96) just ahead of Evans (24.00) in second.

Sara Moulson and Banks went one-two in the 100 free. Moulson touched first at 51.69 and Banks got second at 52.61.

Sydney Cole placed first in the 200 back (2:03.17), followed by Huggins winning the 200 breast (2:17.07).

Sophie Freeman took first place in the 500 free (4:59.93), and Jenny Bird placed first in the 100 fly (55.37) before FSU finished ended the day with a win in the 200 free relay behind Alexandra Dicks, Ratiu, Gloria Muzito and Jernstedt (1:34.34).

In diving, Izzy Gregersen was the winner on both springboards. She won 1-meter with a score of 292.80 and 3-meter at 327.80, ahead of Jesscia Buntman (292.20) in second.

“It felt great to be back at home,” FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. “Competing on back-to-back days is tough, but these ladies had some great dives. They were relaxed and enjoyed competing today.”

The Seminoles will return to the Morcom Aquatics Center to face LSU and Alabama on November 4th at 10 a.m. The meet will celebrate the Seminole Heritage.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 19 Florida Southern women’s swimming team took on Division I opponent Florida State University in addition to North Florida and West Florida Friday afternoon in a dual meet at the Morcom Aquatics Center.

The Mocs went head-to-head in points against each of the three opponents while competing side-by-side in each of the events. FSC ultimately lost to the Argos, Seminoles, and Ospreys in team scores but still competed very well against the top competition.

The meet opened with the 200 medley relay which a team of Teagan MichalekAlizee PelletierElizabeth Sikesand Jazzy Hoffmann finished in a time of 1:49.88. For the 1000 free, Ella Sieber had the best FSC time in 10:56.20 and Vanda Voroshazy was the team’s best in the 200 free with a time of 2:00.72. Michalek was the FSC top time in the 100 back (1:01.23), as Sikes finished second in the 200 fly (2:05.14), nearly topping her DI opponent.

Hoffmann had a 50 free time of 24.93 and took ninth overall in the 100 free with a time of 54.72. In the 200 back, Anya Bogdanova finished 11th overall in a time of 2:16.40, and Pelletier seventh overall in the 200 breast in 2:29.47. Other team bests were Sieber in the 500 free (5:21.84), Sikes in the 100 fly (57.27), and Bogdanova in the 200 IM with a time of 2:14.37.

The final event of the meet was the 200 free relay, in which a team of Hoffmann, Phoebe Reid, Sikes, and Kelsey Leaper finished eighth overall with a time of 1:41.03. Against the Mocs in team scores, West Florida won 202-54, North Florida won 147-77, and Florida State 209-47.

The Mocs will return to Lakeland to host the University of Tampa on Nov. 4, set for a 10 a.m. start at the Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center Pool.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla – The West Florida Swimming and Diving earned two wins in their triple dual meet on Friday afternoon. UWF traveled to Florida State and competed in the Marcom Aquatic center where they defeated Florida Southern 233-59 and North Florida 207-86, and fell to the Division 1 Florida State Seminoles 231-68.

From the Blocks

The Argos started their meet day with the 200m medley consisting of Nina ImbodenEmily O’ConnellLutnya Bogdanova, and Aimee Patterson who placed fourth with a time of 1:48.56.

Freshman Riley MacVane started her meet strong with a strong top-3 finish, placing third in the 1,000 yard free with a time of 10:30.61. MacVane was followed by her freshman teammate Aubrey Klausner who placed fourth with a time of 10:52.69.

In the 200 yard free, Riley MacVane continued her feats, placing fifth with a time of 1:55.02. Teammate Sofia Kendzior finished shortly after her, earning 7th with her time of 1:56.50. Shannah Dillman placed 8th on the afternoon in the 200 free with her time of 1:58.90.

Nina Imboden and Brooke Dorr took fifth and sixth place in the 100 yard backstroke. Imboden swam a sub 60 time of 59.07, and Dorr joined her in the sub 60 club with a time of 59.88 for the afternoon.

In the 100 yard breast stroke, freshman Olivia Copland swam a top three time with an impressive 1:06.67 to earn third in her race.

In the 200 yard fly, Sydney Hartis placed fifth on the day with her time of 2:11.52. Freshman Sydney Lewis got her name on the score sheet with her third place finish in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.08. Lewis is one of many freshman who have come in and created a big impact on the team.

Senior Brooke Dorr earned herself a top three finish on the afternoon, placing third in the 100 yard free with a time of 52.82. Aimee Patterson placed sixth swimming a 53.55, and Sam Packard followed shortly behind, earning seventh with a time of 54.56.

Nina Imboden scored fourth on the 200 yard backstroke, swimming a 2:07.35. Freshman Olivia Copland continued her strong feats of the day, placing a strong second place in the 200 yard breast stroke, swimming an impressive 2:23.59.

Riley MacVane kept showing up for her team as the freshman placed fourth in the 500 yard freestyle, swimming a 5:06.80. Sofia Kendzior placed sixth swimming a 5:09.23, and Aubrey Klausner followed, placing seventh with her time of 5:12.46.

Freshman Sydney Lewis came up big in the 100 yard butterfly, placing second with a time 57.11.

Shannah Dillman swam a 2:10.96 on the day to earn herself a fourth place finish in the 200 yard IM. Ellie Rothfuss placed sixth swimming a 2:11.43, and Olivia Copland earned seventh with a time of 2:11.98.

In the final race of the evening, the UWF Argos earned a third place finish with a time of 1:37.47. The squad consisted of Sofia KendziorBrooke DorrSydney Lewis, andAimee Patterson.

In The Diving Well

On the 1m board, the Argos showed great strength overall. Sophomore Jade Fontenelle earned second place with her final score of 279.20. Adriana Mieses-Sanchez followed Fontenelle, placing third on the afternoon with a score of 278.90. Olivia Nelson placed sixth with a score of 248.10.

As the ladies ascended to the 3m board, the Argos continued to work hard. Jade Fontenelle placed third with a final score of 278.70. Olivia Nelson placed fifth on the day with a final score of 254.50. Adriana Mieses-Sanchez placed sixth, scoring a 231.90.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – North Florida women’s swimming took down Florida Southern thanks to a win in the 100-yard breaststroke from freshman Ashley Kirby, but fell to Florida State and West Florida in the sixth annual FSU Quad Meet, Friday Oct. 20.

The Ospreys put forth impressive swims against each team, recording ten top-five finishes, 31 top-ten finishes as well as three personal bests. Ellie HixenbaughFaith Mutschler and Kirby all tallied multiple top-five finishes on the day.
