Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Anya Pelshaw of Sterling Heights, MI has announced her decision to continue her athletic and academic careers at John Carroll University beginning in the fall of 2020.
Pelshaw made the announcement by sharing, “I’m super excited to finally announce my commitment to swim and study at John Carroll University!! With the pre-med acceptance rate way above national average, and Cleveland Clinic nearby, I cannot wait to be prepared for medical school while also continuing to do the sport I love most in a great team culture. Huge thanks to my friends, teammates, coaches, family, and all that have supported me throughout this process. Go Blue Streaks!!”
Pelshaw swims year-round for Atlantis Swimming-BBA. At the end of January, she swam at the Indiana Circle City Classic, where she was entered in the 200 and 400 IM, 100 and 200 breast, 100 and 200 fly, and the 50 free. Of those events, Pelshaw dropped time in 7 of them, and was less than a second off of her best 200 fly time. In addition, she made it back to finals in the 200 breast and the 200 fly. She placed moved up from 20th to 19th in finals, dropping an additional 0.73 seconds from her prelims swim, totaling a drop of 2.29 seconds for the weekend.
In addition to swimming, Pelshaw ran cross cross her freshman year of high school and she ran track her freshman and junior year. Last year, she attended USA Swimming’s WeLead Summit, which according to USA Swimming’s website, is “designed to offer all athletes, regardless of gender, the opportunity to learn & grow as a leader”.
Top SCY Times:
- 200 fly – 2:12.12
- 100 fly – 59.38
- 50 free – 25.20
- 200 IM – 2:13.05
- 400 IM – 4:42.68
- 200 breast – 2:29.47
- 100 breast – 1:09.57
Pelshaw will join John Carroll University as they aim to win their 5th consecutive Ohio Athletic Conference Championship title. Her times will help her add to the team’s points, by placing her in multiple A-finals. Her 200 fly and breast would have placed her 2nd going into finals, while her 100 breast and 400 IM would have been 3rd. She will get to train alongside top swimmers Gwyn Ledrick and Ynyra Bohan as she aims to improve her times.
Earlier this week, John Carroll University announced that it will be searching for a new head coach for the swimming and diving program, as Mark Fino stepped down.
