Zahariev is a breaststroker, and he’s best as a sprint breaststroker. At the 2020 New York HS State Championships, he scored in the 100 breast B-final, placing 10th with his lifetime best of 58.33. At that meet, he also swam to 45th in the 200 IM (2:01.34) and split a 26.39 on Brooklyn Technical’s third-place 200 medley relay.
During the 2019-20 season, the last full/official season for Fordham due to the pandemic, Zahariev would’ve ranked fifth on the roster in the 100 breast.
At the 2020 A-10 Championships, it took a 56.83 to make the 100 breast B-final. Fordham had an A-finalist and two B-finalists in the event in 2020.
Zahariev joins Evan Trout in Fordham’s incoming class.
