Bronx, N.Y. – (January 25, 2023) – The Fordham swimming & diving team continued its schedule on Wednesday night, earning a dual meet sweep over Iona at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center.
The Fordham women defeated Iona by a 183-106 score, while the men posted a 175-108 win over the Gaels.
The meet began with Fordham taking both editions of the 200 medley relay, as the women’s team of Megan Morris, Emma Shaughnessy, Ainhoa Martin, and Jessica Zebrowski recorded a winning time of 1:45.80, while the men’s team of Christian Taylor, Kevin Zahariev, Paris Raptis, and Taras Zherebetskyy won in 1:32.04.
In the distance freestyle events, Fordham won both women’s events. Alison Lin took first in the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:36.50, with Ellen Brooks grabbing the top spot in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:15.53.
The sprint freestyle events saw five event wins for the Rams. Clare Culver took first in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:55.39, while Jessica Zebrowski won both the 50- (24.60) and 100-yard (52.49) freestyle event. Christian Taylor duplicated that feat on the men’s side winning the 50 freestyle in 21.21 seconds and the 100 in 46.72 seconds.
In the backstroke events, Megan Morris and Alex Wilhelm swept both events. Morris took home the 100 backstroke in 56.82 seconds and the 200 in 2:04.39, followed by Wilhelm winning the men’s 100 backstroke in 52.87 seconds and the 200 in 1:55.66.
The breaststroke events saw four different winners for the Rams. Emma Shaughnessy had the top time in the women’s 100 breaststroke in 1:05.33 with Miranda Bonitatebus taking the 200 breaststroke in 2:27.61. On the men’s side, it was Paris Raptis winning the 100 breaststroke event in 57.76 seconds, with Noah Althoff having the top time in the 200 breaststroke in 2:09.70.
Next in the butterfly events, Vitalis Onu captured first in the 200 butterfly in 1:56.88, while Raptis added his second win of the night in the 100 butterfly in 48.79 seconds. Then in the 200 individual medley, it was Emilie Krog (2:11.15) and Daniel Langlois (1:58.72), posting the top times in the women’s and men’s events, respectively.
Over in diving, Millie Haffety continued her winning ways, placing first in the one-meter (287.25) and three-meter (302.10) diving competitons, while Marco Petit won both men’s events with scores of 201.08 (1M) and 210.75 (3M).
The meet concluded with the 200 freestyle relay, where the Rams had the winning time in both events. Zebrowski, A. Martin, Shaughnessy, and Morris were first on the women’s side in 1:37.98, while the men’s team of Taylor, Onu, Alexander Shah, and Zherebetskyy posted a winning time of 1:24.68.
The Rams will next be in action on Saturday, January 28th, when they travel to Massachusetts for a 1:00 PM meet.

The loss on the men’s side locks in a losing record for the first time in 17-years – since the 2004-06 season, with a Saturday road meet at Manhattan College remaining on the schedule. The Iona women have locked up their fifth consecutive winning season.
MEET SUMMARY
Pacing the Gaels at Rose Hill Gym in the Bronx was Ashley Benkert who captured the 100-yard Butterfly; Isabella Nicholson who won the 100-yard Breaststroke; Victoria Novinskiy who took the 200-yard Butterfly and Brennyn Veit who touched first in the 200m-Individual Medley.
The Iona men got a pair of wins each from Michael Faughnan and Matthew Woyksnar. Faughnan touched the wall first in the 200 and 500-Freestyles while Woyksnar grabbed the wins in the 1000-Free and 200-Individual Medley.
“Fordham swam very well today and there were spots we clearly need to be better. We will get back at it on Thursday and prepare for Manhattan and the Feb (8-11) MAAC Championship in Buffalo.”
