Bronx, N.Y. – (October 21, 2021) – The start of a busy 24 hours for the Fordham swimming & diving team got started on Thursday night at the Messmore Aquatic Center, as the Rams hosted the Marist Red Foxes.
The meet turned into a split for the two teams, as Fordham won the women’s meet, 161-77, while Marist took the men’s meet, 132-105.
In the women’s competition, Fordham won 10 of 11 individual events and both relays on the night. Highlighting the performances were multi-event winners, Clare Culver, Ainhoa Martin, and Natalie Ortof.
Culver took the top spots in both the 200 (1:54.55) and 500 (5:11.61) freestyle events, while Martin took wins in the 200 individual medley (2:05.41) and the 200 breaststroke (2:19.88). Ortof then swept the diving events with scores of 169.10 (1M) and 168.60 (3M).
Other individual events win for the women came from Ellen Brooks in the 1000 freestyle (10:37.11), Kiara Norris in the 50 freestyle (24.70), Jessica Zebrowski in the 200 butterfly (2:08.25), and Leire Martin in the 200 backstroke (2:04.71).
In relay action, the 400 medley relay team of L. Martin, Becky Kamau, Victoria Navarro, and Madeline Bergin took first in 3:53.39, while the 400 freestyle relay group of Navarro, Zebrowski, Norris, and Culver placed first in 3:36.63.
In the men’s competition, Fordham earned wins in five events, which included a pair of multi-event winners. Alex Wilhelm won the 200 individual medley in 1:55.33 as well as the 200 backstroke in 1:54.50, while Diego Perez swept the diving events, scoring 154.15 on the one-meter board and 182.40 on the three-meter board.
The Rams’ remaining event winner was Daniel Langlois in the 200 breaststroke, touching first in 2:11.18.
In the relays, the 400 medley relay of Wilhelm, Langlois, Vitalis Onu, and Nicholas Chao placed second in 3:26.96, while Taz Kanjanakaset, Spencer Clarke, Alex Shah, and Onu also took second in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:11.38.
The Rams won’t have long to rest, as they are right back in the pool on Friday, October 22nd, as they host Monmouth for a 4:00 PM meet at the Messmore Aquatic Center.

BRONX, New York – The Marist men’s swimming & diving team prevailed at Fordham, 132-105, on Thursday night
After a season-opening win against Canisius last Friday, the Red Foxes improved to 2-0 on the season.
HIGHLIGHTS |
- James Conable (1,000 free, 500 free) and Ethan McCormac (200 free, 100 free) both won multiple individual events. McCormac was also part of Marist’s winning 400 free relay team.
- Ahmed Sallam captured the 50 free.
- Orry Zayit took first place in the 200 fly.
- In addition to their individual victories, Sallam and Zayit were also part of the Red Foxes’ victories 400 medley relay.
- Conable’s win in the 500 free highlighted an outstanding event for the Red Foxes, one in which the team took the top three spots and Ante Dany was second, and John Hurley was third. Dany was also part of the winning 400 free relay squad.

- Nellie Thompson captured the 100-yard free in 53.57, taking first by .09 seconds.
- Emma Butzler finished second in the 1,000-yard free (10:42.31).
- The 400-yard medley relay team of Maddie Healey, Sophia Swanson, Danielle Cianciotto, and Jordyn Deubel placed third (4:03.97).
- Paige Tomberelli was third in the 1-meter dive (136.05).
- Molly Hewett was third in the 200-yard backstroke (2:10.85).
- Sidney Judson was third in the 500-yard free (5:17.96).
