Landon Marzullo, an American diver who last year finished his final season of college eligibility, has tested positive for the substance Cannabis (also known as marijuana) after a drug test performed at the 2011 World University Games.
For the test, Marzullo received a warning both from USA Diving and the FISU International Medical Committee (the FISU is the governing body that runs the World University Games). This is in contrast to the 2-month suspension given to Italian swimmer Enrico Catalano for a similar positive test last week.
Marzullo is one of the more promising divers in the American program. In 2005, when he was 16, he was the Jr. Pan Pac Champion on the platform and earned a spot on the U.S. National Team by placing 4th on the 1-meter and 6th on the platform at U.S. Nationals.
In 2008, at Indiana, he was the Big Ten Diver of the Year as just a freshman, and scored on all three boards at NCAA’s. He consistently finished among the top divers in the county at U.S. Nationals, including 2nd on the 1-meter in 2010, but at the college level often struggled with consistency. He transfered to Florida State prior to his junior year.
At the World University Games this past summer in China, where his positive tests came, he was disqualified from the 1-meter event (presumably as the result of the positive test).

On August 16, 2011, a diver Landon Marzullo (USA) was tested positive to the substance Cannabis (Class S.8 Cannabinoids) following a doping control test conducted with the occasion of the 2011 Summer Universiade in Shenzhen (CHN).
The FISU International Medical Committee as well as the USA Diving imposed a sanction of a warning on the athlete.
Why are the divers so dumb? Swimmers smoke weed too, we just stop 2 weeks before the testing meets…
Well, this is no surprise for a diver!!!!
Can’t say that I’m surprised by this. This might seem to be becoming a trend with divers though lately, e.g. Harrison Jones?
