Former Texas Longhorn Alison Gibson Wins Bronze At French Diving Open

PARIS – Former Longhorn diver Alison Gibson earned bronze on 3-meter synchronized at the French Diving Open this week at the Olympic Aquatics Centre. Current Longhorn Hailey Hernandez also competed at this week’s three-day competition, which doubled as an official test event for the Paris Olympic Games this summer.

Gibson and partner Krysta Palmer took third for the United States in Wednesday’s 3-meter synchro competition, scoring 275.16 points to finish just behind runners-up Elena Bertocchi and Chiara Pellacani of Italy, who scored 275.37 points. Australia’s Maddison Keeny and Anabelle Smith totaled 292.77 points to win gold.

On Thursday, Gibson and Hernandez competed for Team USA in the 3-meter springboard competition. Gibson took sixth with 270.10 points and Hernandez scored 264.15 points to finish eighth. Keeney won gold with 337.35 points and China’s Yani Chang placed second with 320.40 points, while Japan’s Mikami Sayaka rounded out the top-three, scoring 302.85 points to win bronze.

Hernandez and Gibson will both compete at USA Diving Olympic Trials in Knoxville, Tenn. on June 17-23.
