Former Upper St. Clair Lifeguard Charged With Sexually Assaulting Underage Co-Worker

A former head lifeguard in Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania has been charged with sexual assault on an underage coworker, Pittsburgh’s WTAE News reports.

The alleged assault took place between 2011 and 2013, and WTAE reports that local police were informed of the allegations but did not take any action in investigating them.

Michael Kelly was the head lifeguard at the Upper St. Clair Community Recreation Center, and allegedly abused a fellow employee, who was 16 at the time.

WTAE reports that Kelly allegedly followed the 16-year-old girl into a storage room while the two were working at the rec center and demanded that the teen engage in sexual activities with him. The victim says the alleged abuse happened at least three times around the time she started working at the rec center – once in late 2011, once in early 2012 and again in 2013.

The girl says the situation escalated from there, with Kelly taking her back to his house when her mother dropped her off at the rec center.

The local district attorney, Stephen Zappala, said an anonymous tip started their investigation. Zappala is also quoted in the WTAE story saying that the victim’s parents went to the local police, but that the police took no action in the matter.

Kelly will have a preliminary hearing next Thursday, September 24th, and will face charges of sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, unlawful contact with a minor, endangering the welfare of children and corruption of minors, according to WTAE.

Not defending the guy, but it gets annoying that these articles are posted before anything has been proven. So far we only hear the victims side. At least wait for a conviction before ruining the guys life.
