Former Villanova Standout Hayley Edwards Joins UNF Coaching Staff

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Head Coach Ian Coffey announced today the appointment of Hayley Edwards as an Assistant Swim Coach. Edwards elevates to the collegiate coaching ranks after an accomplished career at Villanova University.

“We are glad to have Hayley on board, she has an extensive knowledge of the sport and should make an immediate impact on our program,” said Coffey. “She is an accomplished leader from a reputable Division I swim program and will be an asset for us moving forward.”

11794Since graduating Villanova with a degree in Sociology in 2013, Edwards has served as a full-time head coach at the Greater Philadelphia Aquatic Club and is a Certified USA Swimming Level Two Coach.

As a member of the Wildcat Swim team she won four Big East Conference Individual Championship Titles (Three in 1650 & one in 500 Free). She qualified for three NCAA Championship Meets and was named the team’s MVP all four years at Villanova. She emerged as the team captain as a senior and followed up with the team’s fastest times in six different events. She currently holds school records in the 1000 Freestyle, 1650 Freestyle, 200 Butterfly, 200 Medley Relay and 800 Freestyle Relay.

Edwards qualified for the USA Swimming Olympic Trials in 2012 after helping the Wildcats to a fifth place finish at the Big East Championships. She was a four-time All-Big East Conference selection and garnered Academic All-America honors from the NCAA her junior year.

“I am incredibly excited to join the North Florida swim program as an assistant coach,” said Edwards. “Coach Coffey had great success last year and I look forward to helping the student-athletes improve on that success especially with such a large incoming freshman class. UNF is a beautiful campus with very friendly staff and I am honored to join the close-knit community.”

Edwards will assume her role as assistant swim coach on August 31. The 2015-16 season will be the second under Head Coach Ian Coffey.
