Four top Welsh swimmers will be setting sail to continental Europe for the Mare Nostrum Series, including Commonwealth freestyle champion Jazz Carlin.
Carlin, arguably one of the most successful of the bunch, also won two golds at last summer’s European Championships representing Great Britain. At the Commonwealth Games she got the rare opportunity to represent Wales.
Jemma Lowe is another 2014 European Champion who will be competing in the Mare Nostrum Series. She’s a flyer, having medalled at both the short course World Championships and short course European Championships in butterfly events. Lowe is also a double Olympic finalist.
Calum Jarvis will be one of the two male competitors for Wales at the series. Last year, Jarvis made his debut into success at international competition with a bronze medal in the 200m freestyle at the Commonwealth Games.
Jarvis most recently won a British national championship and will be heading to Kazan, Russia this summer to compete at the World Championships.
Tom Laxton, who represents FINIS with Jarvis, will also be competing on the Mare Nostrum Series and the World Championships later this year. Laxton also won a British national championship recently after two years of battling injury.
British swimming is on the rise, and it’s seeing a huge growth in its many counterparts including Scotland and Wales.
The first stop on the Mare Nostrum Series will be June 6th and 7th in Canet en Roussillon.
