Fox withdraws from World Championships

Paralympic Champion Jonathan Fox has been forced to pull out of the British Team that will compete at the IPC Swimming World Championships in Glasgow due to an ongoing shoulder injury.

Fox is working through a rehab plan with the British Para-Swimming sports science and sports medicine team but the competition has come too soon for him to be ready to compete at the top level.

The world record holder will continue his rehab plan in Manchester in order to be at his best for the 2015/16 season.

Fox said: “It’s been a really tough decision to pull out of the World Championships. I have been working really hard but after meeting with my coaches and medical team it is going to be better in the long term for me to focus on just my rehab.

“Competing at my third Paralympics remains my ultimate goal and I will continue working on my rehab to give me the best hope of returning to that podium. I’d like to thank everyone for their support and wish the team good luck in Glasgow.”

Head Coach Rob Greenwood: “We’ve had to make the decision, alongside Jon and the medical team, that it’s best for his long term recovery to pull out of the World Championships. Jon’s focus is now set on the Rio Games and delivering his best performance possible.

“Jon has been working really hard on his recovery and he is being well supported but Glasgow has just come around a little too early in his rehab, this won’t detract from an exceptional team we have going to Glasgow. Our team is in a good place and our athletes and coaches preparation is going well.”
