Freeman, Tran Among Late Entries to US Nationals Psych Sheets

USA Swimming revised the psych sheet for the 2013 USA Swimming National Championships late Thursday evening, released on Friday morning, and there were two significant additions to the meet.

One was two-time NCAA Champion Cindy Tran, who wasn’t originally entered in the meet, but will be swimming four events: the 50 fly (13th seed), the 100 fly (15th seed), the 50 back (10th seed), and the 100 back (11th seed). With Tran’s incredible initial 50 meter speed, she has an outside shot at qualifying for Worlds by winning either the 50 back or the 50 fly.

Also added was Katy Freeman of the Santa Barbara Swim Club, who still sits as the third-fastest American of all-time in the 200 breaststroke (behind only Rebecca Soni and Amanda Beard). When psych sheets were originally released and Freeman’s name was not on them, it was somewhat surprising after a very good meet in Santa Clara three weeks ago that left her as the 7th-best American this year in her best event, the 200.

She’ll swim in the 50 breast (10th seed), 100 breast (13th seed), and the 200 breast (9th seed).

Freeman’s Santa Barbara teammate Katie Records was also a last-minute addition in her only qualifier, the 200 breaststroke, where she’ll be the 26th seed (out of 31) with a 2:33.88 seed time.

The only other addition that we were able to pick out was Georgia sophomore Ty Stewart, who added a 5th event to his schedule. He was already entered in the 200 back, the 200 fly, the 200 IM, and the 400 IM, but is now in line to also swim the 100 backstroke, where he’s the 18th seed in 56.13.

True, she has speed but its hard in meters for her and I’m a fan. She been swimming fairly well for her in the meets and was uncertain why she did do the finals in the 100 meter back in Mission Viejo. I guess now she is training with Mark who is not… Read more »
