Freestyler Alexis Simpson to stay in state with Florida Gulf Coast University

Swim Florida’s Alexis Simpson has decided to stay in the Southwest Florida area by committing to Florida Gulf Coast University for the 2015-2016 collegiate season. Simpson will not be traveling far, as her high school, Gulf Coast High School, is less than 20 miles from the FGCU campus.

Her commitment comes a week after her performance at the FHSAA 3A State Championship meet, where she placed 4th in the 200 Free with a 1:52.78 and 8th in the 500 Free with a 5:03.78. Her performance in the 200 Free was almost a 5 second drop from her 11th place 1:57.13 she swam last year at the same meet. Simpson did not swim the 500 Free last year at states, instead swimming the 100 Free, where she placed 18th at prelims with a 55.06.

Simpson will join a middle distance training group that has had great results over the years. Her range in the freestyle events will also be a major factor for the Eagles, who are losing 5 seniors who specialize in the middle distance events. If she continues to improve as she has during her high school, Simpson can be a major contributor in the Coast Collegiate Swim Association (CCSA) for the Eagles.
