Freestyler and Butterflier Haley Halsall Commits to Indiana State

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Haley Halsall, a senior at Woodstock High School, has verbally committed to Indiana State University.

I chose Indiana State University because I found the coaches and team to be very welcoming and informative. The campus felt like home and I think it will certainly be a place where I will be able to grow and continue both my academic and athletic career. Go sycamores!”

Halsall also swims for the Woodstock Dolphins Swim Team. At the 2021 Futures Championships in West Fargo, Halsall finished eighteenth in the 1500-meter free, and in the top 30 in the 200-meter fly.

She also competed at the 2021 Speedo Summer Sectionals in Section 1, where she placed in the top 20 in both the 200-meter fly and 1000-meter free.

Halsall’s best short-course yards times are:

  • 500 free: 5:08.95
  • 1000 free: 10:42.19
  • 1650 free: 18:02.52
  • 100 fly: 58.68
  • 200 fly: 2:13.19

Indiana State University is a Division I school and a member of the Missouri Valley Conference. At the 2021 MVC women’s championships, Indiana State placed third out of eight teams. Halsall would’ve placed 21st in the 500 free and 24th in the 200 fly.

If Halsall competed last season, she would’ve been the sixth-fastest 100 butterflier and 1000 freestyler, and the ninth-fastest 500 freestyler on the team. Her best times would already rank her as the tenth-fastest 1000 and 1650 freestyler in program history.

Indiana State performed relatively well in the 500 free at the 2021 conference championships, with three of the top ten finishers hailing from the university. Two of those three performers will still be swimming at Indiana State when Halsall arrives– Rhiannon Wozny and Andrea Putrimas– but they will both be seniors. Halsall, therefore, can help usher in a new generation of top distance freestylers for the team if she can match and beat her top times.

Halsall joins Nina Kawka, Peyton Heagy, Raine Boles, Kam Nowak, and Kalli Agapios as members of the Indiana State fall 2022 recruiting class.
