Matthew Hurford, a senior at Garnet Valley High School in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, has announced his commitment to Franklin & Marshall College for 2021-22.
“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim for Franklin & Marshall College! I would like to thank my coaches, family, and friends for supporting me throughout the whole process. Can’t wait for the next 4! Go Diplomats!”
Hurford swam for his high school, most recently at the PIAA Class AAA District Championships. He placed 2nd in the 100 free (47.11) and 8th in the 200 free (1:44.31). Last year at the AAA State Meet, he swam the 500 free and came in 26th in prelims (4:46.62).
Hurford swims year-round with Rocky Run YMCA. At the Middle Atlantic Swimming Senior Short Course Championships in April, he updated his personal-best times in the 50, 100, 200, and 500 free. He finaled in all four events, finishing 8th in the 50 free, 5th in the 100 free, 6th in the 200 free, and 9th in the 500 free.

Hurford would have been F&M’s top mid-distance freestyler in 2020-21. He will join Timothy Turnbull in the Diplomats’ class of 2025.
