Freestyler/Backstroker Danielle Bergeson Verbally Commits to Minnesota

Danielle Bergeson from Bismarck, North Dakota has verbally committed to the Minnesota Golden Gophers, as that program continues to load-up on freshman for the fall of 2015 to help fill the gap from a big graduating class.

Bergeson is a fantastic sprint freestyler and backstroker, and is one of the best female recruits, if not the best female recruit, to come out of the state since Dagny Knutson.

The AquaStorm swimmer has yards bests of:

  • 50 free – 23.67
  • 100 free – 51.07
  • 200 free – 1:51.14
  • 100 back – 55.68
  • 200 IM – 2:05.72
  • 400 IM – 4:25.75

That 100 back time, done at the 2012 North Dakota State Championship meet (her sophomore season) is a Winter Nationals cut.

Minnesota needs big help in their freestyle ranks to replace the outgoing senior class and are seeking a new leadoff swimmer for the medley relays. This year, that spot on the medleys will likely go to sophomore Katelyn Holmquist, who was a 54.7 as a freshman last year, but in the 2015-2016 season, Bergeson will battle for that spot as well.

Bergeson swims for Century High School – a state swimming power in North Dakota, where she is a member of the Honor Roll.

She joins a deep class that includes Erin Emery, Erin BuckChantal Nack, Kaia Grobe, and Maggie Werba.

Dani is committed to the sport, but she never loses sight of her teammates and the younger swimmers in club. Thanks, Dani, for being a positive influence and congratulations on your U of M spot!
