The NC State men and women were victorious on Friday against in-state and ACC rival UNC. Freshman Ky-Lee Perry impressed in the women’s sprints, setting a new Pool Record. That record came in the 50 free, as she put up a winning time of 22.54 to clear the former mark of 22.62 done by Riki Bonnema in 2015. Perry also won the individual 100 free with a quick 49.14.

Perry was a part of another Pool Record swim in the 200 medley relay, as she teamed up with Elise Haan (back 24.89), Kayla Brumbaum (breast, 27.03), and Natalie Labonge (fly, 23.66). Perry anchored in 22.00 as they combined for an overall 1:37.58.

NC State narrowly missed the Pool Record in the men’s version of the 200 medley relay. Freshman Coleman Stewart and Junior Ryan Held highlighted the event, as Stewart blasted a 21.90 split on the 50 back and Held anchored in a quick 18.94. They teamed up with breaststroker Derek Hren (24.77) and butterflier Andreas Vazaios (21.53) en route to a 1:27.14.

Individually, Held popped a 19.51 to win the 50 free and a 47.08 to win the 100 fly. Stewart, on the other hand, charged to a 47.81 in the 100 back to out-touch teammate Hennessey Stuart (47.91). He then went on to take 3rd in the 200 back with a 1:47.02, helping the Wolfpack secure a 1-2-3 sweep behind teammates Justin Ress (1:44.68) and Stuart (1:45.51).

RALEIGH- The No. 3/9 NC State men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs swept RV/RV UNC-Chapel Hill on Friday night inside the Casey Aquatic Center. The team won 26 of 32 events, earning podium sweeps in eight events.

Wolfpack Relays
The Wolfpack had a dominating evening in the relay events, starting with a sweep in the 200 medley relay. The women’s ‘A’ team of Elise Haan, Kayla Brumbaum, Natalie Labonge and Ky-Lee Perry broke the Casey Aquatic Center pool record, finishing in 1:37.58.

On the men’s side, Coleman Stewart, Derek Hren, Andreas Vazaios and Ryan Held also finished first in 1:27.14.

Both ‘B’ relays finished in second in their respective races. Alexia Zevnik, Emmie Barnhill, Krista Duffield and Lotta Nevalainen finished in 1:40.18. Hennessey Stuart, Zack Warner, Soren Dahl and Joe Bonk clocked a 1:29.02.

Once again, the men and women posted the fastest times in the 400 free relay. The women’s team of Haan, Nevalainen, Baka and Kerr finished in 3:20.67. The men’s team of Scott Johnson, Mark McGlaughlin, Bonk, Andreas Schiellerup finished in 2:57.24.

“I thought it was a good performance by both of our teams, it’s been a while since we’ve had a regular dual meet. The team was eager to race again, and obviously it’s been a while since we’ve been at home,” said head coach Braden Holloway.

“The crowd was great and there was a lot of energy—our team fed off that right away. I thought they brought the energy and never let down. It was a great team environment today and we executed pretty well. A lot of it was momentum—we had a few out-touches early in the meet and we were able to feed off that.”

Diving
“It wasn’t the best meet, it wasn’t the worst meet. We had a few people that did an outstanding job,” said head diving coach Yahya Radman. “A huge shout out goes to Rachel Burston who finally qualified for zones, which was a big goal. We need to go back to the drawing board and look at some things to see what needs to be fixed, but overall, I’m pleased with this performance.”

Top Individual Performances
The Wolfpack had a hot start, sweeping both the women’s and men’s 1,000 free. On the women’s side, Hannah Moore finished first, followed by Rachel Muller and Anna Jahns, who finished in 9:44.06, 9:58.21 and 10:07.48, respectively. Anton Ipsen led the men’s race in an impressive 8:58.84. Jack McIntyre and Adam Linker finished close behind in 9:05.87 and 9:09.54, respectively. Those three returned later in the meet to sweep the 500 free as Ipsen found his second win of the night (4:22.60), followed by Linker (4:25.663) and McIntyre (4:28.42).

The Wolfpack also had sweeps in the women’s 200 free, the women’s 100 breast, the men’s 50 free and the men’s 100 and 200 back.

Freshman Perry set a Casey Aquatic Center record in the 50 free, touching at 22.54. Perry also won the 100 free (49.14). Breaststroke specialist Brumbaum won two events: the 100 breast (59.79) and the 200 breast (2:10.42). Zevnik won the 100 back (53.11) and the 200 back (1:54.98), and
Moore won all three of her events: the 1000 free (9:44.06), 200 fly (1:59.06) and 500 free (4:47.47).

Diving
Harrison Mitchell had a strong performance, finishing second in both events. In the one-meter event, Mitchell scored 311.93 points while in the three-meter event he scored 326.85. On the women’s side, Madeline Kline led the team in both events, placing second with 298.35 points and 294.68 points on the one and three-meter boards, respectively.

The Wolfpack will return to the Casey Aquatic Center Saturday for Senior Day at 4 p.m. to take on No. 13/5 Virginia.

RALEIGH, N.C.  –  The University of North Carolina men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams fell in dual meet competition Friday night against nationally-ranked teams from North Carolina State University at the Willis R. Casey Natatorium.

The third-ranked Wolfpack men defeated the Tar Heels 192-105 and the ninth-ranked NC State women defeated the Tar Heels 185-112.

On the women’s side, UNC got individual victories from junior diver Elissa Dawson and senior co-captain Hellen Moffitt.  Dawson, a junior from Durham, N.C., won the one-meter event with a score of 300.98 in a contest decided by less than three points.  She won the three-meter event handily with a score of 327.30.  Moffitt took first place in the 100-yard butterfly at 52.64.  She also had runner-up finishes in two other events.

Senior diver Jack Nyquist, junior Michael McBryan and freshman diver Andrew Owsiany tallied individual victories on the men’s side.  Nyquist, a senior from Alpharetta, Ga., won the one-meter diving competition with a score of 347.55, easily outpacing the rest of the field.  In a tight three-meter diving competition where four divers were within six points of each other, Owsiany, a freshman, earned his first-ever collegiate dual meet win, with 327.15, just .40 points ahead of NC State’s Harrison Mitchell.

The other win from the UNC men came from junior Michael McBryan, who took home first place with a time of 2:00.27.

The Tar Heel women also received second place finishes from Caty Hulsey in the 200 free and 200 IM, from Moffitt in the 100 back and 200 back, Sarah Koucheki in the 200 fly, Sarah Hitchens in the 50 free and Abby Fisher in the 200 breast.

On the men’s side, Carolina benefitted from runner-up finishes by Jorden Merrilees in the 200 free, Craig Emslie in the 100 breast, Lucas Popp in the 100 free, Christian Caveness in the 100 fly and Henry Campbell in the 200 IM.

Caveness swam the 100 fly in 47.66, his career best time, eclipsing his previous personal best time of 48.73.  It was a time that moved Caveness into ninth place all-time amongst UNC performers in the 100-yard butterfly.

The Tar Heels also earned victories in both 400-yard freestyle relay events.

The Tar Heels will return to action Saturday at Maurice J. Koury Natatorium when they play host to the Duke Blue Devils on Senior Day.  Nineteen UNC swimmers and divers will be honored in pre-meet ceremonies as they compete in their final home dual meets of their careers.  Senior Day ceremonies begin at 12:20 p.m. while meet action starts promptly at 1 p.m.
