Two California Emilys, Niles and Glass, have given their verbal commitments to swim for the Fresno State University Bulldogs next fall.

Emily Niles

Fresno State_w_NilesEmily Niles is a distance swimmer out of Clovis Swim Club in Central California, with Junior National qualifying times in both the 1500 and 800 distances and a bonus cut in the 400. While she competed at 2015 Summer Juniors in both the 400 and 800 freestyles, it was an off-meet for Niles and her best long-course times come from California-Nevada Sectionals in the summer of 2014.

Niles’ best performances over the last two years are:

  SCY LCM
1650/1500 17:02.84 17:12.16
1000/800 10:01.07 8:58.29
500/400 4:56.21 4:22.29
200 free 1:52.52 2:07.19
100 free 55.15 1:03.45

Niles fills an important hole in Fresno State’s lineup; no Bulldog scored in the “A” or “B” finals of the 500 freestyle at 2015 Mountain West Conference Championships, and only two in the top 16 of the 1650 (both of whom will have graduated by next fall). Niles would have been FSU’s top performer in the 500, scoring somewhere in the “B” final, and their third scorer in the 1650 at 16th. Moreover, her times in all three distance events (500-1000-1650) would make Fresno State’s all-time top 5 lists, and her 1000 is already faster than the school record by 5.8 seconds.

Emily Glass

Fresno State_w_GlassEmily Glass swims for Conejo Simi Swim Club and Thousand Oaks High School. She specializes in breaststroke and IM, and told SwimSwam, “I committed to Fresno State because of the welcoming team and coaches. When I went on my recruit trip everything felt like it just fit for me, the school and the swim program. I can’t wait to be a bulldog next year!!”

Glass has made steady progress over the last several years, dropping 3 seconds in her 100 yard breast and 6 in her 200 yard breast. Her top times include:

  SCY LCM
100 breast 1:09.32 1:20.95
200 breast 2:33.20 2:56.63
200 IM 2:24.61 2:45.98

FSU had one “B” and one “C” finalist in the both breaststroke distances at the 2015 Mountain West Championships, but in order for Glass to have impact at the conference level she’ll need to drop down to a 1:04-high/2:22-mid breaststroker.
