FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State swim team defeated San Jose State 169-113 on Senior Day at the Aquatics Center, Friday afternoon.
The Bulldogs honored four seniors in Morgan Coddington, Emily Cutler, Tonya Guryeva and Elizabeth Wenner.
Fresno State (1-1) earned its first dual win of the season after chalking the top time in 10 out of 16 events.
Swimming Highlights:
- In the 200 Medley Relay, the Fresno State team of Clayson, Wasserman, Cutler and Melia took first place with a time of 1:47.15.
- In the 1000 Free, Eydis Osk Kolbeinsdottir finished in first place (10:37.63) and Maya Gulvady finished in second place (10:40.43).
- In the 200 Free, Samarah Melia took the top spot with a time of 1:54.26.
- In the 100 Back, Clayson logged a first place finish (56.44) and Cutler finished behind her in second (57.89).
- In the 200 Fly, Mackenzie Hutler (1:06.76) and Gulvady (1:07.41) had the top two times.
- In the 50 Free, the Bulldogs chalked the top three times (Guryeva, Choppe, Keith).
- In the 100 Free, Melia finished first with a time of 52.85.
- In the 200 Back, Clayson chalked a first place finish with a time of 2:02.59.
- In the 200 Breast, Keren Wasserman took second place with a time of 2:25.36.
- In the 500 Free, Cutler (5:11.05) and Gulvady (5:11.98) finished in first and second place, respectively.
- In the 100 Fly, Hutler chalked the top spot with a time of 57.85.
Fresno State will conclude the regular season at the Aquatics Center on Feb. 5 at 2 p.m. PT.

Fresno, Calif.—Rebecca Petoe and Izzie Fraire won the breaststroke races for the San José State Unversity women’s swimming and diving team on Friday afternoon as the Spartans competed at Fresno State. The Bulldogs won the meet 169-111.
Petoe won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.76, with Fraire finishing second in the race at 1:07.41.
Fraire then won the 200 breaststroke at 2:24.69.
Petoe also won two other events during the meet – 100 butterfly at 59.25 and the 200 individual medley at 2:13.61.
The 400 freestyle relay ended the meet with a win at 3:36.31.
“We were really pleased with a lot of our performances today, especially given the limited practices over the past two months,” said Spartan head coach Sage Hopkins. “We were especially happy with the breaststroke races and the performances of the Mathieson sisters.”
San José State now prepares for the Mountain West Championships, February 17-20, in Las Vegas, Nev.
