Former Florida State All-American butterflyer Chelsea Britt is transferring out of the FSU program this offseason.
Britt was an NCAA qualifier in both of her seasons with Florida State, placing 8th in the 100 and 200 fly during her sophomore season in 2015. She didn’t compete for the Seminoles at all in the 2015-2016 season and confirmed to SwimSwam that she’d be transferring out of the program for the upcoming year.
Britt said she’s specifically looking to transfer out of the ACC, because transferring within the conference would force her to give up a year of college eligibility.
“I just got officially released last Tuesday and have only spoken with one coach since NCAAs have been going on,” she said. “I know it’s a busy time for teams!
“I’m looking for a school with an elite program that can help me accomplish my goals in the pool, and out of the pool of course.”
Britt named Florida, Georgia, Texas A&M and California as a few schools already on her radar in the early stages of the transfer process.
Britt could be a huge get for any NCAA program, with lifetime-bests that would have placed her right on the bubble for A finals appearances at last week’s NCAA meet.
Britt’s Best Times
- 100 fly – 51.79
- 200 fly – 1:53.68
- 200 IM – 1:58.91
- 100 back – 52.64
With so many excellent coaches available in all three NCAA divisions, I have to wonder how a high profile program like FSU went 0 for 2.
I saw comments from a few other parents whose kids had to suffer the abuse under coach Frank Bradley, and could not help but speak out. I have never posted on this site before. Our son was recruited to FSU on a scholarship, and left hating the sport after one season. Our son as well as we as a family have invested since the age of 9 in his swim training, commuted many miles each day to practices, and supported our son at all of the long weekend meets for so many years, until his junior and senior years in high school he earned 7 All American honors for his swims. We were so proud of him in EARNING this… Read more »
Apparently, FSU lost their best junior male swimmer this week.
I think it is time to ask for Nancy Hogshead’s assistance in investigating this abusive program & Coach Frank.
This Coach needs some serious anger management & psychological counseling.
I am so sorry that your son has experienced the same abuse as our daughter & her fellow teammates.
What is this AD doing?
The AD is doing nothing apparently. Frank has manipulated that team and has driven so many of those athletes love for the sport down the drain.
Now apparently he has gotten in touch with their head media person (Christa), and she posted a full message to the athletes about “media etiquette”. She’s just as guilty for the abuse and the swept under the rug mistreatment of that program.
There’s several athletes on that team that has reached out to other college coaches, but with no release its hard for action to take place.
Them losing their fastest breastroker is a CLEAR result of Frank’s unacceptable behavior, and even a potiential NCAA champion with one year left will not finish… Read more »
You know nothing of why Jason Coombs quit. But here you are badmouthing people.
Sorry but you have probably never spoken to him nor what’s going on in that program. Keep comments to yourself unless you know facts please.
So is Frank gone yet or what?
Any update from within the program?
Still waiting on the AD. We did lose another freestyler/flyer to transfer.
And Jason Coombs quit, too??
Yes, you are correct that Neil Harper shaved the team for the Nov UF duel meet, I thought we already established that?
Great Coaches prepare swimmers for Championships not semi tapered mid season December invites! Look at the seasons best time lots of them came in GA. not N.C. in February?
Let’s play, “What are you thinking?”
You are a FSU Swim Coach under investigation.
Do you:
A. Lay low & seek the protection of the Assistant AD.
B. Engage in another hour long tirade on the pool deck.
C. Address the entire team & tell them that the AD backs you 100% in an attempt to intimidate witnesses from coming forward.
Your answer is: B&C.
And just for playing, you have lost another freshman student-athlete last week.
What are you thinking?
Intimidate witnesses? This is getting just pathetic. Definitely sounds like Frank recruited a few light weights. I swam for Frank and this is just pathetic.
Completely agree. Frank is a great coach. So what if he roughed up a couple of girls and hurt their feelings to make them perform. Big deal. Toughen up. Welcome to D1 sports Baby!
TRUTH :: :I TYPE IN CAPS BECAUSE I CAN’T SEE AS GOOD AS I USE TOO.. AN AS FAR AS CHELSEA GOES SHE NEVER SAID SHE HAS A FULL RELEASE, AGAIN THAT WHY YOU NEED TO DO YOUR RESEACH, CHELSEA HAS APPLIED FOR A FULL RELEASE, AN GO’S IN FRONT OF A NON -CONFLICTING BOARD, TO TRY TO GET A ONE TIME TRANSFER WAIVER. BUT AGAIN FRANK DID NOT GIVE HER A FULL RELEASE !!!!!!!! AN HE WILL BE AT THE HEARING TO STATE HIS REASONS FOR NOT RELEASING HER. AN I WILL BE THERE TOO. IF SHE IS DENIED , THEN SHE CAN NOT GO TO ANY SCHOOL IN FL. OR IN THE ACC, WITH OUT HAVING TO SIT… Read more »
In order for UF to talk to her at all, they had to have prior written permission from FSU or she has to already have a release. In fact, the same would be true of any school talking to her. She stated she had such a release. Why would she mention UF as a school she was interested in if there were such a stipulation as you contend? From what you are saying, Chelsea is apparently applying for a one time waiver of the NCAA residency rule. From an NCAA perspective (I checked the applicable SEC rules which only refer to transfers within the SEC), an athlete can ask for or apply for a waiver of the residency requirement (residency… Read more »
TRUTH : SHE HAS 2 YEARS LEFT OF ELIGIBLITY SHE CAN GO THERE BUT SHE WOULD LOSE ONE YEAR.. SO UN LESS HERE APPEAL IS APPROVED , SHE WONT BE GOING TO FL. PLUS THERE IS A RULE IN THE SEC. THAT IF YOU ONLY HAVE ONE YEAR OF ELIGIBLITY LEFT, YOU CAN NOT TRANFER INTO THE SEC. DO YOUR RESEACH FIRST BEFORE YOU SPEAK !!!!!!
Typing in caps doesn’t make your statement any less false – you stated that Coach Bradley was preventing her from transferring to any school in Florida and from any ACC school and that simply is not true! She stated she was given her full release from FSU meaning she can contact any school in which she is interested. Read your own post before you retort. She had a visit at the University of Florida yesterday. As far as conference rules, last time I checked FGCU is not a member of the SEC.
