The complete entries book for the 2017 FINA World Championships have been posted online. While the information has been available for a while on the FINA app, the official start lists organize and include seed times, and make the information much easier to read.
Below are a breakdown of entries that we’ve gone through:
- Katinka Hosszu has 6 entries at 2017 World Championships
- Le Clos racing only 2 of 3 fly events in Budapest
- Mireia Belmonte may race 7400 meters in Budapest
Also of interest, Japan’s Kosuke Hagino will have only 3 entries – the 200 back, 200 IM, and 400 IM – swapping in the 200 back for the 200 free that he swam in Rio (and placed 7th in).
Swimming at the Danube Arena in Budapest will start on July 23rd and run 8 days through July 30th.
How will one be able to watch finals?

Sure, why not. Why to cut own chances in case if Ledecky, Pellegrini, McKeon, Coleman decide: “What the hell. Who needs these medals at 200 free”.
Her entries list means nothing. Just another demonstration of ambitions that can be as much important to her image as results achieved.
She has guts and confidence in her own garden ( and doesn’t like her federation ) so she will give it all . I love that attitude

The last thing I’m worrying about is that Hosszu’s husband will let her to retire after this championships. So she will have plenty of chances to entertain her home crowd. Plus Budapest will host another World Championships (SC) where the competition is usually lesser than at LC. Plus she will be a few years older that will make her even stronger in accordance with current pattern of her progress.
Don’t worry about Katinka’s future.
There are more mysteries & phenomal improvements in older swimmers in our drug free era than there ever were in former times.
Weren’t pro swimming opportunities either, so we’ll never know what Biondi, Meagher, Caulkins, et al could have done later in life.
Not that older either .I don’t recall anyone taking 4 se cs off a 100 back from 19- 21 either like Masse . 4 secs ok but not to WR level . We must have done everything wrong o not find those pl out there in the tundra.
Unless Hosszu is at personal best form at 200 free I won’t be surprised if these extra 600m of strong competition kills her gold medal at 400IM in front of home crowd. Even semifinal will be tough. Not to mention that 200 free adds two heavy doubles:
100BK final – 200 free semi
200FR final – 200 fly semi
Yes, if it is a question of impressing people like you with the attitude, then she will swim all this bs.
If it is a question of optimizing her performance and maximizing overall result then at least one of these three events (100bk, 200free, 200fly) will be skipped.
Probably she will swim all prelims then decided to quit before Semis of one of them.. Semi being tough I don´t buy.. her gold might suffer if she is too tired but she is so much better than everyone else on 400 IM she can final even tired..
Hosszu’s current ranking at 200 free is #13 (1:56.81). Her personal best is 1:55.41 and she was only three times under 1:56. 5 swimmers have already swum 1:55 and faster this season. If to take off of the list Sjostrom, Ikee and one of Chinese girl (there are three ahead of Hosszu) who are in the 1:56 zone ahead of her then she still be only #10. Having 100BK final to swim right before 200 free semi-final will require some sweat I think to be #8 at 200 free semi.
Sweden is listed in W4x100 free competition. Does it mean that we will see Sarah Sjostrom on day one swimming 100 free. Maybe leadoff leg. Maybe with world record. It may take the pressure off of swimming super fast the individual race. Swimming for the win only would be easier and less energy consuming task.
Coleman always takes the leadoffs for Sweden. Sjostrom should swim the anchor in prelims to go just as fast as needed for the team to qualify. In finals she usually takes 2nd or 3rd leg.
