Namilla Sanchez, a member of the Gulliver Swim Club and a senior at the Gulliver Preparatory school in Miami, FL, has verbally committed to the Vanderbilt Commodores.
Sanchez was a finalist in the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle for the last two years of the Florida 2A High School State Swimming Championships, where she finished as state high school runner-up in the 500-yard free during her sophomore year. Sanchez spent the first part of her junior year recovering from a back injury and the second half of her season going on to contribute to Gulliver Prep’s first-ever Florida High School State Championship in 2014.
Over this past summer, Sanchez fully recovered and achieved personal long course meter bests in the 100, 200, 400, and 800 freestyle events and placed 16th in the 800 LCM free and 23rd in the 200 LCM free at the 2015 Futures Championship in West Lafayette, IN.
Sanchez is the third Gulliver swimmer to commit to an SEC school this fall. Last month, teammates Niki Urquidi and Kelly Fertel made their commitments to swim for the University of Florida.
Sanchez’s best times are:
- 200-yard freestyle: 1:52.44
- 500-yard freestyle: 4:55.90
- 1000-yard freestyle: 10:25.67
- 1650-yard freestyle: 17:19.95
- 200-yard butterfly: 2:04.48
- 400-yard IM: 4:30.10
Sanchez’s best 500-yard freestyle time would have been the second fastest time posted by Vanderbilt last season and her 1000-yard freestyle would put her as the third fastest. She will join butterfly/IM’er Paige Hamilton at Vanderbilt in fall of 2016.

NEMO I LOVE YOU
Love you Nemo!
She committed to the Vanderbilt University Commodores, not the University of Vanderbilt Commodores.
She might even go close to 4:50 in the 500 by the time state championships come around.
