Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Ryan Silver of Raleigh, North Carolina has verbally committed to swim at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill beginning in the fall of 2021. His club team posted the announcement on their Twitter page:

Silver swims year-round for the Marlins of Raleigh, where his dad Paul is the head coach.

In August, Ryan Silver competed at the USA Swimming Futures Championships in Greensboro. He swam the 50, 100, and 200 back, the 100 and 200 fly, and the 200 and 400 IM. Silver made it back in the B-final in the 200 back, where his time of 2:08.63 earned him an 11th place finish (3rd in the heat) as well as a personal best time. Silver most recently competed at the Speedo Championship Series in Cary. He made it back to finals in the 100 and 200 back, the 100 and 200 fly, and the 200 and 400 IM.

Silver is currently a junior at Athens Drive High School. In January, he competed at the North Carolina 4A Central Regional Championship. He placed 5th in both the 100 back (52.18) and 100 fly (52.01). He led off his team’s 200-medley relay with a time of 25.03. The relay earned a bronze medal behind Green Hope High School and Panther Creek High School. They closed the meet with a silver medal performance in the 400-free relay. Silver anchored the relay with a split of 46.68. The Athens Drive men’s team placed 3rd overall, narrowly missing 2nd place to Panther Creek High School. In September, Silver was named a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American.

Top SCY Times:

  • 200 back – 1:50.32
  • 400 IM – 3:59.15
  • 200 IM – 1:52.47
  • 100 back – 51.22
  • 200 fly – 1:51.35

Silver has one more year before he joins UNC-Chapel Hill for the 2021-2022 season. His 400 IM  places him 3rd amongst the men behind Alex Mays and Adam Kerr. He will be joining Walker Davis and Jay Baker as a member of the class of 2025.

Ryan’s oldest brother Tyler just completed his senior season at the University of Florida, where he was 12th in the 100 fly at the 2020 SEC Championships. A middle brother in the family, Chris, attends NC State but doesn’t swim there.
