The Minnesota women have picked up some more in-state backstroke talent, as Kelly Leonard has signed her national letter of intent to join the Gophers next fall. Leonard, who is primarily a backstroker, trains club with Riptide Swimming in Apple Valley, Minnesota. In addition to her backstroke talents, she’s also shown promise in the butterfly events. She’ll join the women at Minnesota next season after she graduates from Hastings High School at the end of this school year.
In the long course pool, Leonard has established herself as a gold medalist at the Futures Championships (Central/West Lafayette). At the 2015 Futures meet, she swam to victory in the 200 meter back with a speedy 2:16.99. She also raced to a personal best 1:05.06 in the 100 meter back at that meet.
