Futures Qualifer Evelyn Buetow Commits To Middlebury College (2023)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Evelyn Buetow of Bellingham, Washington, has announced her decision to continue her academic and athletic career at Middlebury College. Buetow is finishing up her senior year at Sehome High School, and will arrive in Vermont for the 2023-2024 season this fall.

I’m super excited to study and swim at Middlebury College! I chose Middlebury because of its great academics and enthusiastic swim program. Go Panthers!”

Buetow trains and competes year-round with the Bellingham Bay Swim Team. Last summer, she capped off her long course season at the Futures Championships in Santa Clara. She competed in the 100m free (1:03.45), 100m fly (1:05.99), and 200m fly (2:26.17), earning her highest finish in the 200 at 42nd.

Most recently, Buetow raced at the Western Zone Senior Championships, where she logged five season best times and one personal best in the 200 fly. She clocked a 2:06.46 to hit her first best time in the event since 2021, good for a 5th place finish overall.

This spring she kicked off her long course season at Speedo Sectionals in Fargo. Buetow posted best times in the 50m free (28.30), 100m free (1:01.73), and 200m IM (2:40.50), with her 200 IM being a best by nearly a full second.

Top SCY Times:

  • 50 free – 24.52
  • 100 free – 53.75
  • 200 free – 1:55.98
  • 100 fly – 56.75
  • 200 fly – 2:06.46

Middlebury College is a NCAA Division III program that competes in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). The Middlebury women finished 5th out of 11 teams at this year’s NESCAC Championships, putting up their best team finish since 2017.

Buetow projects to make a huge impact for Middlebury at the conference level, as her best times in the 100 and 200 fly would have qualified her for the A-final this year. Freshman Elise Scott led the team this season with an 8th place finish in the 100 fly (56.92), while junior Hailey Vandenbosch was the top finisher in the 200 at 18th (2:09.07). Both will be on campus when Buetow arrives, giving Middlebury the chance to develop more depth in the fly events.

Joining Buetow in Middlebury’s incoming class of 2027 is Chloe Bautista, Sasha Casey, Katie Chiappetta, Miranda Moser, and Fayne Smith-Salzberg. Moser and Bautista also swim fly events, owning best times of 59.16/2:09.05 and 57.31/2:06.70, respectively.
