Futures Qualifier Alexia Hoven To Remain In-State with Verbal to Sioux Falls

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Alexia Hoven of Aberdeen, SD has verbally committed to swim for the University of Sioux Falls beginning in the 2022-2023 season. She is a senior at Aberdeen Central High School and she swims year-round for Aberdeen Swim Club.

After a lot of consideration I chose USF because of the level of attention and family atmosphere that was provided from the start. From the coaching staff to the school president, I was met with caring conversations and given time to get to know everyone. I’m excited to be part of the Coo family and reach new levels of success with my future teammates.

My swim career has been filled with injuries that have made me stronger in my passion for the sport, taught me perseverance, and allowed me to find my place encouraging and helping others. The strength I have gained led me to reach my goal of swimming in finals at Futures and will continue to work towards reaching next level I love this sport, coaching the younger swimmers and cheering everyone on between deck dances.

This summer, Hoven competed at the 2021 Futures Championships in West Fargo. She swam the 50 free and the 100 and 200 fly. She went personal best times in each race and she earned a spot in the D-final of the 200 fly. She removed 0.7 seconds from her prelims time to go a personal best time of 2:26.63.

She also led off Aberdeen’s 400 free relay, splitting a best time of 1:03.38 in the 100 free. She was 34th in the 100 fly, requiring her to do a swim-off for first alternate. She won the race, going 1.22 seconds faster than she had in prelims to go a 1:03.70.

In February, she won three events at the South Dakota 13&O Championships. Hoven got her hand on the wall first in the 100 free and the 100 and 200 fly. She finished in the top 8 in her remaining events. She was 3rd in the 50 and 200 free, 4th in the 100 IM, 5th in the 100 free, and 6th in the 500 free.

Top SCY Times:

  • 100 fly – 56.62
  • 200 fly – 2:05.14
  • 50 free – 24.82
  • 100 free – 54.17

Sioux Falls finished third at the 2021 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships. The women brought home 7 gold medals, the most of any of the teams at the conference meet. Elizabeth Spaans and Chantal Kasch each brought home two individual medals. Spaans won conference titles in the 100 back and 200 IM and Kasch won the 100 and 200 breast.

Hoven will be a strong addition to the roster. Her 200 fly time would have made her the team’s fastest competitor and her 100 fly would have placed her second behind Domenica Solano Ocampo. Additionally, her top times would have made her a medal contender in the 100 and 200 fly at the 2021 conference champs.

Hoven will join the Cougars as a member of the class of 2026.
