Futures Qualifier Andrew Olsen set to swim at Sewanee, University of the South (2024)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Andrew Olsen, a recent graduate of Holy Spirit Preparatory High School, is set to swim for Sewanee, University of the South, starting this fall. Olsen, a sprint freestyler, has spent the entirety of his age group career swimming at the Chastain Park Athletic Club.

I am beyond excited and grateful to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at  Sewanee. Thank you to God, friends, family, coaches, and teammates for supporting me.  Go Tigers!

At the 2024 GIAA State Championships in January, Olsen was a 3 time finalist, scoring all 20 of Holy Spirit Prep’s points to help them to a 7th place finish. There, he was 2nd in the 50 free (21.67), 2nd in the 100 free (46.90) and 3rd in the 200 free (1:42.09).

His 200 free marked a new personal best, just dipping under his previous PB of 1:42.31 that he set at last year’s GIAA State Championships. Overall, Olsen had an impressive junior year campaign, as last year, his 200 free took 2nd, he was 3rd in the 50 free (22.02), and he was the state champion in the 100 free, swimming a 47.06 for 1st.

Olsen carried that momentum throughout his senior year, and at the Georgia Senior SC Championship back in December 2023, he set a flurry of PBs. In the 50 free, he swam a 21.51 best in prelims before finishing 18th at finals with a 21.84. Then, in the 100 free, he swam a 46.36 in prelims and was just off that new best at finals, finishing 3rd in 46.55. He similarly established a new PB in the 100 back prelims (53.56) before adding half a second to finish 25th in finals (54.07). He additionally swam new PBs in the 200 back (1:57.23) and 50 back (24.35).

Best times SCY:

  • 50 free – 21.51
  • 100 free – 46.36
  • 200 free – 1:42.09
  • 100 back – 53.56
  • 200 back – 1:57.23

Sewanee is a DIII institution and a member of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA). At the 2024 SAA championships, Sewanee finished 6th out of 7 teams. They were led by breastroker Naeem Mangum, a rising junior who took 5th and 6th in the 100 and 200 breast, respectively.

Olsen will look to make an immediate impact on Sewanee when he arrives on campus this fall, as compared to the 2023-2024 roster, his 50 free would rank 2nd while his 100 and 200 free would have led the entire team; his 200 free would have ranked 1st by an impressive 8 seconds.

At the conference level, Olsen will look to be an immediate title threat, as his best times are within striking distance of what it took to win the 2024 SAA Championships in all 3 of the sprint freestyle events—in the 50/100/200 free, the winning times were 20.58/45.63/1:41.05. In order to qualify for the championship final in those events, it took times of 21.88/47.92/1:46.13.

Olsen will join his father, Stephen Olsen, who played football at Brown University, and sister Natalie Olsen, who plays college soccer at Northeastern University, as collegiate athletes.

Along with Olsen, Sewanee will welcome Whitt Davis, Henry Lindeman III, and Carter Nabors in their class of 2028. Nabors and Lindeman are also sprint freestylers, while Davis specializes in mid-distance freestyle.

Feels like the Fino-Effect is starting to take place at Sewanee. I would certainly let any of my kids swim for Mark. Seems as though Mr. Olson sees already what others soon will. Best of luck to you, Andrew.

Rhodes dominates this conference. Keep an eye out for Jack Whitten, Francesco Assalone, Jeb Brownell, Jonas Hostetler, Daniel Snyder, incoming freshman Alex Brann, and incoming Irish freshman Benji Cummings. They will be a top 15 team this year!
