Futures Qualifier John Guilinger To Remain In-State with Verbal to Penn State

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

John Guilinger of Pittsburgh, PA has decided to swim for Penn State.

I’m extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at Penn State University. I want to thank my family, coaches, and friends for their support that helped my get here! #WEARE.

Guilinger is a year-round member of Mount Lebanon Aqua Club. This summer, he competed at the USA Swimming Futures Championship in Geneva, alongside teammates Gennarino Conzemius, Trinity Ward, and Abigail Duncan. Guilinger qualified for the 200m IM, 100m back, 100m fly, and he did a time trial for a 50m free. He earned a personal best time in the 50m free, and was close to his best in his 3 other events.

At the PIAA AAA Boys State Championship, Guilinger swam two individual races as well as a relay. He competed in the 200 IM (1:55.33), where he placed 20th, less than a second away from making it back into the B-final. In the 100 back, he placed 25th with a time of 53.09, only 1.3 seconds off his best time. Finally, Guilinger swam the backstroke leg on his team’s 200 medley relay. He went a 24.28 in prelims and a 24.29 in finals. Conzemius swam the breast leg, Nolan Jacob did the fly, and Cooper Luedde anchored for a 14th place finish.

Top SCY Times:

  • 200 IM – 1:54.33
  • 100 back – 51.83
  • 50 back – 24.28
  • 200 back – 1:54.00
  • 100 fly – 51.28
  • 50 free – 21.73

Penn State has already acquired numerous swimmers for the class of 2024. Guilinger will be joining sprinters Ben Doyle, Branko Kosanovich, and Jacob Houck, mid-distance swimmers Jacob Oberle and Miles Cochrane, and distance swimmer Zach Brewer.
