Futures Qualifier Kaylee Wu Commits to Purdue

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Kaylee Wu, a junior at Westlake High School in Texas, has verbally committed to Purdue University.

I’m extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at Purdue University! I’m super grateful for my coaches, family, friends and teammates who’ve helped me get to this goal. Also big thank you to Coach John and Coach Nicole for giving me this opportunity. I cant wait to be a boilermaker! #boilerup”

At the 2021 Texas high school state championships for class 6A, Wu finished tenth in the 200 free. Wu also swims club for Nitro Swimming. At the 2021 West Speedo Winter Junior Championships in Austin, she swam as part of a 13th place 4×100 free relay, and as part of the 4×50 free relay and 4×200 free relay, both of which placed 15th.

Wu has USA Swimming Futures cuts in the 100, 500, 1000, and 1650 free, as well as the 100 fly. Her best short-course yards times are:

  • 100 free: 52.04
  • 200 free: 1:50.49
  • 500 free: 4:59.78
  • 1000 free: 10:17.50
  • 1650 free: 17:06.73
  • 100 fly: 57.21

Purdue is a member of the Big Ten conference. At the 2021 women’s Big Ten championships, Purdue placed ninth out of 13 teams. Already, Wu’s best times would make her the third-best 200 freestyler ever on the team, the fourth-best 500 freestyler, and the fifth-best 100 freestyler.

Wu’s sprint and mid-distance strength could prove valuable for Purdue, which only scored a few points in those races during the 2021 Big Ten championships. Already this season, Wu’s best times would place her as a top 10 performer for the team in the 100 free, 200 free, 500 free, 1000 free, and 1650 free.

Wu joins at least five other recruits so far for the recruiting class of 2023: Abbie Kehmeier, Caitlin Hurley, Leyla Sleime, Meg Howell, and Gretchen Schneider.
