The 2022 Purdue Invite is in the books, seeing the Louisville Cardinals win the women’s team title in dominant fashion. The Boilermakers won the men’s title by 100 points over Louisville, repeating as mid-season invite champions for the first time in program history.
Finishing off her excellent meet, Louisville’s Gabi Albiero clocked a 47.49 to win the women’s 100 free tonight. It was a huge season best for Albiero and she led a strong Louisville sprint group. Christiana Regenauer finished second in 48.05, while Ella Welch clocked a 48.71 for third and Julia Dennis was fourth in 48.81.
While it likely wouldn’t have impacted Albiero’s win, rising Northwestern star Jasmine Nocentini scratched finals after qualifying 4th and didn’t appear in the Friday evening session.
The Ulett sisters were great for Louisville tonight as well. Rye Ulett, a freshman, won the women’s 200 back in 1:53.98, touching out teammate Paige Hetrick (1:54.04). Hetrick built an early lead, but Ulett roared home in 57.07 on the final 100 of the race, pulling even and getting her hand on the wall first.
Tristen Ulett won the women’s 200 fly in 1:55.78, touching first by over two seconds. She pulled away on the third 50 of the race and was able to expand her lead coming home on the final 50.
The Cardinals grabbed another NCAA ‘A’ cut in a relay tonight, winning the women’s 400 free relay in 3:12.47. Regenauer (47.97), Albiero (47.86), Dennis (48.48), and Welch (48.16) teamed up to get the job done, clearing the ‘A’ standard by nearly two seconds. Louisville also notably got a 48.12 split from Tristen Ulett on the second leg of the ‘B’ relay.
Northwestern picked up a win in the men’s 200 fly, where Ben Miller swam a 1:43.88. Like Ulett, Miller pulled ahead on the third 50 of the race, setting himself up for victory.
Purdue picked up a win in the men’s 400 free relay, where Nick Sherman (43.29), Brady Samuels (42.01), Idris Muhammad (42.93), and Keelan Hart (42.64) combined for a 2:50.87.
Liberty Williams was another winner for Louisville, taking the women’s 1650 free in 16:10.48. The Cardinals swept the miles tonight, as Ilia Sibirtsev took the men’s 1650 in 14:58.12.

Nocenti scratched the 100 free final?
Sounds like there was some flu-like stuff going around the meet, hit several teams there. I think that’s why Burdisso missed the meet as well.
Look at their history of scratching… not an isolated incident. And not great for team chemistry.
I don’t know what their history of scratching is, but I think after 2020-2022, we’re past the point where we expect people to show up at meets with infectious diseases, right?
