COLUMBIA, S.C. — Three home events, including dual meets with Kentucky and Tennessee, highlight the 2016-17 South Carolina swimming and diving schedule, head coach McGee Moody announced Tuesday.

For the second straight year, Carolina will kick off the season at the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational in Ft. Myers, Fla., at the FGCU Aquatics Complex Oct. 7-8.

The Gamecocks return home Oct. 13 to host Kentucky. The Carolina men defeated the Wildcats 207.5-92.5, but the women lost 177-123 when the teams last met in 2014.

South Carolina will close out the month of October in College Station, Texas, as the Gamecocks take on the Texas A&M (Oct. 28) for the first time since 2012, when the two teams split the dual meet in Columbia.

Carolina’s women will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., to face Arkansas (Nov. 4) before rejoining the full squad Nov. 17-19in Atlanta for the Georgia Tech Invite to close out the fall season.

Starting the spring portion of the schedule, South Carolina will host Tennessee on Jan. 7 for the first time since 2011.

For the 10th-consecutive year, the Gamecocks will face the Blue Devils of Duke. Carolina will travel to Durham, N.C. on Jan. 14, before returning home to host the SC College Invite. The five-team meet will feature UNCW, East Carolina, Queens and Wingate from Jan. 27-28.

February sees the Gamecocks in Chapel Hill, N.C. for the Chapel Hill College Invite (Feb. 10-12), followed by a trip to Knoxville, Tenn., for the SEC Championships on Feb. 14-18.

South Carolina’s men will look to improve on their seventh-place finish from last season and defend its title in the 1,650-yard freestyle, won by Akaram Mahmoud.

Both the men’s and women’s NCAA Championships will take place in Indianapolis, with the women’s meet on March 15-18 and the men’s meet set for March 22-25.

What’s with all of the college programs attending more and more invites and doing less duals? When I swam we did one invite or Winter Nationals before Christmas training and that was it. Kudos to Texas, Georgia, NC State, etc. for seeking out tough 1:1 competition to sharpen their swords!
