Gardner-Webb Swimming Announces 2015-16 Schedule

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.- Gardner-Webb has released its 2015-16 schedule, with the season getting underway Oct. 2-3 at the North Carolina College Invitational in Greensboro.

This will be the fourth straight year the Runnin’ Bulldogs will open the season at the event, which features some of the top swim programs in the state.  The meet is hosted by nationally ranked (#7 Men, #13 Women) N.C. State University.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs will take a three week break before they return to action, competing in a tri-meet on Oct. 31 in Christiansburg, Va. GWU will face off against the Virginia Tech Hokies of the ACC and the UMBC Retrievers who both come into the meet as defending conference champions (Men – Coastal Collegiate Swim Association)(Women – American East Conference).

A week later, the Dawgs travel to Buies Creek, N.C. to face East Carolina and Campbell. Both squads will be facing off with ECU, while the Lady Dawgs compete with Campbell. This will be the first time since the 2010-11 Season that GWU will compete against the Pirates.

Gardner-Webb will compete in a home-and-home against Wingate on Nov. 20-21, before they head to Rock Hill, S.C to round out the fall portion of the schedule at the competitive 3 day prelim/final Fall Frenzy Invitational.

GWU will open the 2016 Year on Jan. 15-16 with competition against Georgia Southern and the Savannah College of Art and Design, and follow that up the next Saturday, against Davidson, Georgia Southern, and Liberty at Davidson College.

The final dual-meet of the season on Senior Day, will feature the Runnin’ Bullogs versus nearby Limestone College on Jan. 30 at Gardner-Webb.

Gardner-Webb will take a two-week break to prepare before they head to Athens, Georgia for the 2016 Coastal Collegiate Swimming Championships on Feb 17-20.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs are coming off a fantastic 2014-15 season that saw earn big dual-meet victories over UNC Asheville and Marshall, and were honored with Nathan Lile being named the Most Outstanding Male Swimming at the 2015 CCSA Championships and Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Head Coach Mike Simpson was named the Men’s Coach of the Year, as the Runnin’ Bulldogs broke 19 school records, earned 18 All-Conference selections, had 6 Conference Champions, and earned 9 NCAA ‘B’ cuts.
