Garriga, Texas State Champ Leo Sanchez Commit to TCU

The TCU Horned Frogs, with the power of the Big 12 brand behind them, continue to improve their in-state recruiting this fall, and have added two more Texans to their class of 2019: Leo Sanchez from El Paso and Alex Garriga from San Antonio.

Sanchez, from El Paso-Eastwood High School and the Desert Shark Swim Club, is the defending Texas 5A (big school) State Champion in the 200 yard free when he swam a 1:38.33. He also enters this season as the favorite to win the 100 free at the Texas State Championship meet: he was 3rd last year in 45.47, and the two swimmers ahead of him were seniors.

He’ll have a one year overlap with two very talented, promising Horned Frog sprinters, Corey Nix, who was 44-low as a sophomore last year, and current sophomore Garrett Hills.

In the long-term, Sanchez will be a focal-point of the TCU rebuilding period that should be kick-started with a very good recruiting class this fall.

Garriga is another very good addition in the fall, and is a butterflier with yards bests of 50.79 and 1:51.04 in the 100 and 200 yard flys. He’s also been 21.6 in the 50 free, 47.2 in the 100 free, and 1:42.5 in the 200 free.

Garriga, who swims for Alamo Area in club meets and Reagan High scholastically, won the B-Final at last year’s Texas State Championship meet in the 200 IM with a 1:53.46
