UT Permian Basin Swim didn’t have to look far for their newest addition to the coaching staff, adding George Black as an assistant coach. Black spent the last four seasons on the team and served as captain for three years.
“George embodies all things UTPB,” said Head Coach Betsy Graham. “He has a great appreciation for the school and the swimming program. He has been on the ground floor and believes in the culture and the direction we are taking this team. His enthusiasm, ambition, and knowledge of swimming is a great fit for the future of UTPB Swimming and Diving.”
Black competed all four years as a Falcon and capped his career with a stellar showing at the New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference Championships this spring. He earned a spot on the All-Conference Second Team after competing in the breaststroke and IM events as well as part of relay teams. Black helped the Falcons finish in third place overall.
“I am honored as a recent graduate of UT Permian Basin to be back as the assistant coach of the swim team,” said Black. “I am excited to grow and improve the program under my mentor, Head Coach Betsy Graham.”
Black is also accomplished in the classroom, earning NSISC All-Academic honors every year on the team and was a member of the UTPB 3.0 Club every semester. He has experience coaching as a part of Hunters’ Chase Swim Team prior to joining UTPB and has also spent time lifeguarding at UTPB.
