George Mason Men, American Women Take Potomac Relay Invitational Titles

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The George Mason men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams opened the 2019-20 season on Friday at the Potomac Relay Invitational held at American University.

Facing teams from American, Georgetown and Howard, the Mason men’s team won four events to claim first place with 100 points.  The Mason women’s team won three events and finished second with 90 points.

On the women’s side, senior Shannon Glesing, sophomore Chloe Fite and freshmen Emily Lewantowicz and Grace Newton took second in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:40.02).

Mason sophomore Laura Hodge along with freshmen Jacquee Clabeaux, Ashton Gasper and Lewantowicz won the 500-yard freestyle relay (4:43.63).In the 800-yard freestyle relay, the combination of sophomore Megan Cummins, Ashton, Gasper and Hodge swam to a second-place finish (7:53.65).

Cummins and Hodge combined to take the top spot in the 1000-yard freestyle relay (10:35.27).  Sophomore Hannah Milikich, Ashton and Clabeaux won the 3X100 backstroke relay (2:54.97).

In the 200-yard medley relay, freshman Leah Riley, Clabeaux, Glesing and Lewantowicz placed second (1:47.40), while the team of Ashton, Clabeaux, Gasper and Riley touched the wall second in the 400-yard medley relay (4:07.36).

On the men’s side, seniors Logan Eubanks and Christopher Stankiewicz, junior Devin Truong and sophomore Will Rastatter combined to win the 200-yard medley relay (1:34.18).

Graduate student Jake Ball, senior Ryan Donnelly and juniors Andres Alarcon and Dylan Peck took the top spot in the 400-yard medley relay (3:37.00).  The combination of senior Attila Kiss, junior Drake Moretz, sophomore Nick Ashton and Rastatter won the 500-yard freestyle relay (4:11.18).

The Patriots also won the 200-yard freestyle relay, with Ashton, Moretz, Rastatter and Stankiewicz finishing first (1:25.60).

The Mason men’s team finished second in the 1000-yard freestyle relay, 3X100 backstroke relay and 3X100 breaststroke relay.

The Patriots are back in the pool when the face Delaware on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. at Rawstrom Natatorium in Newark, Del.

WASHINGTON – For a second year in a row, the American University women’s swimming and diving team took the team title at the Potomac Relay Invitational. The meet, hosted by AU at Frailey Pool in Reeves Aquatic Center, featured teams from Georgetown, George Mason and Howard. GMU was the winner on the men’s side, besting Georgetown by four points.

MEET NOTES

  • AU began the meet on top of the leaderboard with a women’s win in the 200 medley relay. Abby Longstaff, Alex Brosvik, Kyra Manson and Eleanor Felton posted the 11th-best all-time mark at AU, going 1:47.40.
  • After a Georgetown win in the 800 free relay, the Eagles’ women won again with Felton, Feys and Mason teaming up to post a first-place time of 2:57.04 in the 3×100 fly relay.
  • The AU women took second in the 3×100 backstroke relay, the 3×100 breaststroke relay and the 1000 free relay.
  • To close out the meet on the women’s side, the Eagles’ foursome of Brosvik, Felton, Manson and Ellen Johnson won the 200 free relay, posting a time of 1:37.33. In just the first meet of the season, that mark is already good enough for 10th all-time at AU.
  • In the men’s 3×100 fly relay, the trio of Liam Riebling, Johnathan Quick and Yannick Bohbot-Dridi teamed up for a win in a time of 2:33.88.
  • The final tally on the women’s side had AU with 96 points, George Mason with 90, Georgetown with 86 and Howard with 52.
  • George Mason’s 100 points won for the men, followed by Georgetown (96), Howard (72) and AU (68).

NEXT UP

The Eagles will host their annual Red vs. Blue Alumni Meet on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 3 p.m. The first dual meet of the season is at home against Loyola (Md.) on Saturday, Oct. 12.

WASHINGTON (October 4, 2019) – Howard University men’s & women’s swimming and diving teams opened its new season at the annual Potomac Relays Invite, hosted by American University, where several relay squads finished in the top three.

On the men’s side, newcomer Arion Solomon (Fairburn, Ga.) highlighted Friday’s event as he was part of three second-place teams.

Solomon, alongside fellow classmates Miles Simon (Atlanta) and Luke-Kennedy Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas) and junior Kegan Ford (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad & Tobago), took second in the men’s 500 Free Relay, clocking in at 4:11.55.

Simon, Solomon and freshman Mark-Anthony Beckles (Chaguanas, Trinidad & Tobago) finished runner-up in the 3×100 Butterfly relay.

Beckles, Ford, Simon and second-year swimmer Miguel Davis, Jr. (Washington) also earned a silver medal on the today in the 200 Medley relay.

For the women, they had a pair of third-place finishes.

Junior Nia-Carole Parker (Wyncote, Pa.) and freshman Jada Johnson (New Albany, Ohio) claimed third in the women’s 1000 Free Relay while senior Leanne McMaster (Kingston, Jamaica), sophomore India Jackson (Philadelphia) and newcomer Ileana Bocage (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad & Tobago) also finished third in the 3×100 Breast relay.

Saturday (Oct. 5), Howard hosts Virginia Military Institute (VMI) inside Burr Pool. First race is set for 1 p.m.
