WASHINGTON – Peter Nachtwey posted a pair of NCAA Zones qualifying scores to sweep the diving events on Saturday as GW men’s swimming and diving rolled past Georgetown, 153-90, on Senior Day at Smith Center Pool.

The junior from Ohio began his day by posting a season-high score of 308.20 on 1-meter before landing a 328.40 on 3-meter. Those efforts clinched his place at the NCAA qualifying meet for a third straight season.

DH Hwang (500 and 1,000 free) and Haoning Chen (200 free, 100 breast) also posted a pair of individual wins vs. the Hoyas. In all, the Colonials won nine of 13 events on an afternoon in which they unveiled their 2019 Atlantic 10 Championship banner.

HIGHLIGHTS
– GW scored big diving points with first-year Spencer Bystrom in second behind Nachtwey on both boards.
– The Colonials dominated the distance races. They went 1-2-3 in the 1,000 free with Hwang winning it in 9:31.10 followed by Zach Hu (9:42.21) and Josh Legge (9:50.36). Then, they went 1-2-3-4 in the 500 free with Hwang on top (4:40.41) and Legge (4:42.13), Brendan Conley (4:44.91) and Hu (4:48.63) next in line.
– A former Division II All-American, Chen made the most of his GW debut. The graduate student grabbed first in the 200 free in 1:43.34, just ahead of teammate Youssef Ragab (1:43.44). Later, he touched first in the 100 breast in 56.71 seconds, showing his excitement with a triumphant splash.
– Max Forstenhaeusler shined in his final meet at Smith Center Pool, posting a win in the 100 free (:45.91) ahead of teammate Tyler Kawakami (:46.70). The senior from Germany also anchored GW’s win in the 400 free relay (3:05.04) and took third in the 200 IM (1:53.98).
– Dylan Arzoni was GW’s other individual winner, taking the 100 fly in 51.23 seconds.
– Senior Andrew Cho led the Colonials in a pair of events. He took second in the 50 free in 21.38 seconds and then placed runner-up in the 100 back in 51.38 seconds.
– Chen, Cho, Forstenhaeusler and Moritz Fath were recognized before the meet in a Senior Day ceremony.

UP NEXT: GW heads to William & Mary next Saturday to continue its preparations for the A-10 Championships and beyond. It’s a 2 p.m. start in Williamsburg, Va.

WASHINGTON –  Gemma Atherley and Jackie Torrez celebrated Senior Day in style on Saturday afternoon, posting individual wins for George Washington women’s swimming and diving in a 155-88 win over Georgetown at Smith Center Pool.

Atherley earned her win in the 200 free (1:52.71), while Torrez took the 200-yard individual medley (2:07.54). The seniors were among eight individuals to win races in the convincing victory over the Hoyas.

The Colonials took 10 of 13 events in all, highlighted by a pair of dominant relay performances.

HIGHLIGHTS
– In addition to her win in the 200 free, Atherley had a hand in GW’s 400 free relay win, and she also placed third in the 100 back.
– Close behind Torrez in the 200 IM were Ann Juneau (third, 2:09.06) and Andrea Ho (fourth, 2:09.28).
– GW showcased its depth finishing 1-2 in both relays. The 200 medley relay team of Ho, Stine Omdahl PetersenMeghan Burton and Rebecca Smolcic won in 1:45.33 with Isabel BerdecioCourtney SicinskiPatricia Cerri-Droz and Becca Brown behind them (1:48.81). In the meet closing 400 free relay, GW’s team of Atherley, Burton, Patino and Grace Olivardia won in 3:32.80 with Sicinski, Marissa MartinAnn Juneau and Erin McCarthy in second (3:38.73).
– GW took the top four spots in the 50 free. Brown touched first in 24.19 seconds followed by Olivardia, Smolcic and senior Sydney Melnick.
– Olivardia finished on top in the 100 free in 53.07 seconds with Brown right behind (:53.26).
– Burton won the 100 fly in 56.54 seconds, while Ho added an individual win in the 100 back in 56.97 seconds.
– Omdahl Petersen (1:06.17) and Sicinski (1:07.75) went 1-2 in the 100 breast.
– Graduate student Marissa Martin touched first in the 500 free in 5:08.38.
– Gabriella Arendes paced the Buff and Blue on the 3-meter board (244.80), while Caitlin Inall was the top finisher on 1-meter (241.20).
– Before the meet, Atherley, Torrez, Melnick, Gillian ChowskeCourtney CoghillElisabeth Vogel and Lynn Zhang were honored as part of the Senior Day festivities.

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University swimming & diving team was swept in a dual meet at George Washington on Saturday afternoon. The GU women fell 155-88, while the men’s squad dropped a 153-90 decision.

HOYA WOMEN

  • Georgetown received 15 top-three finishes over the 11 individual events, including three victories.
  • Corey Moon got things started with a triumph in the 1,000-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 10:25.77 to win by a two-second margin.
  • Riley Fujioka claimed both the 3- and 1-meter dives, leading the Hoyas to sweeps in both events as Elizabeth Miller and Margaret Barnhorst both finished in the top three of both events.

GEORGETOWN MEN

  • The Georgetown men also claimed three individual victories, as well as a win by the 200-yard medley relay squad of Drew CarboneConnor MorikawaMichael Baldini and Sean Devlin.
  • Devlin also came away with a win in the 50-yard freestyle as he outstretched his opponent by a .17-second margin in 21.24 seconds.
  • Carbone won both individual events he competed in as he touched the wall first in the 200-yard IM (1:52.27) and the 100-yard backstroke (50.24).

COMING UP NEXT
Following this weekend’s meet, the Hoyas will return home to McCarthy Pool on Saturday, Jan. 25. Georgetown will host Drexel in a dual meet that is scheduled to start at noon. The meet will serve as GU’s Senior Day as the Hoyas will recognize their 13 seniors.
