George Washington Sweeps Crosstown Rival Georgetown For Eighth Straight Time

WASHINGTON – The George Washington University men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams left nothing to doubt at McCarthy Pool on Saturday, throttling the Georgetown Hoyas, 213-86 (men’s) & 203-95 (women’s), and beating the crosstown foe for the eighth-straight meet.

MEN’S HIGHLIGHTS

  • GW’s 200-yard medley ‘A’ relay, swam by Ganesh Sivaramakrishnan, Preston Lin, Daniel Nagy and Elliott Irwin, started the meet with a victory (1:28.29).

  • Sivaramakrishnan (48.02), Holden Thomas (49.33) and Karol Mlynarczyk (49.98) finished first, second and third in the 100-yard backstroke, respectively.

  • Daniel Choi went fastest for the Revolutionaries in both distance swims, the 1,650-yard freestyle (15:34.50) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:30.98).

  • Gage Boushee (1:38.98) and Justin Dostal (1:41.17) grabbed first and second in the 200-yard freestyle, respectively.

  • Preston Lin earned a win in the 100-yard breaststroke (55.26).

  • Connor Rodgers blazed through the 200-yard butterfly for the win (1:46.93), more than three seconds quicker than second place.

  • Elliott Irwin sprinted to victory in the 50-yard free (20.20).

  • Ben Bradley (307.80) and Michael Wood (303.08) earned the top two scores on the 1-meter board. Bradley (308.55), Holden Wheeler (303.90) and Wood (293.10) later submitted the top scores on the 3-meter board.

  • Shae Stratton (1:47.85) and Mlynarczyk (1:49.52) were the top finishers in the 200-yard backstroke, as Stratton neared a GW all-time top ten time.

  • Ben Sosnowski neared his personal best time in the 200-yard breaststroke and won the event (1:59.03).

  • Nagy earned a Buff & Blue win in the 100-yard fly (47.78).

  • Rodgers (1:49.21) and Sosnowski (1:49.62) had the best two times in the 200-yard IM.

  • The men’s 400-yard freestyle relay finished the meet in first (3:01.69), swam by Irwin, Thomas, Nagy and Sivaramakrishnan.

WOMEN’S HIGHLIGHTS

  • In the 200-yard freestyle, Colleen MacWilliams (1:49.55), Ava Topolewski (1:50.91) and Jules Fifer (1:52.79) made it an all-GW top three.

  • Veronica Fyfe (260.70), Olivia Paquette (260.33) and Olivia Rosen (230.70) swept the podium on the 1-meter board. Paquette (307.73) and Dyde (271.58) later had the top pair of scores on the 3-meter board.

  • Topolewski (16:28.07) and Taylor Bernosky (17:32.53) nabbed first and second in the 1,650-yard freestyle. The pair dominated the distance events, finishing in the same order in the 500-yard freestyle (Topolewski: 4:56.61; Bernosky: 5:05.26).

  • Marlee Rickert touched first in the 100-yard backstroke (56.14). Rickert later earned her second win of the meet in the 100-yard freestyle (51.45).

  • Chloe Hernandez, GW’s all-time fastest sprinter, won the 50-yard free (23.68).

  • Sori Ebrahimi (1:05.20) and Breuklynn Harris (1:05.58) were the two quickest in the 100-yard breaststroke.

  • Molly Smyers won the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.14), nearing her personal-best time. Smyers continued her quality outing with a victory in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.69), nearly five seconds faster than second place, and with a victory in the 200-yard IM (2:02.60), followed closely behind by MacWilliams (2:04.00).

  • MacWilliams was quick in the 200-yard backstroke and earned first place (2:01.72).

  • The women’s 400-yard freestyle relay took first place to close the meet (3:23.45). The relay was swam by Hernandez, Rickert, MacWilliams and Topolewski.

UP NEXT
GW prepares for its final dual meet of the season, next a split-location meet against UMBC. The meet begins Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Baltimore, and continues with Senior Day, Sunday at 10:00 a.m. at the Smith Center.

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University’s men’s & women’s swimming & diving teams fell to George Washington at McCarthy Pool on Saturday afternoon. The men’s team lost 213-86 while the women’s team fell 203-95.

“The score doesn’t tell the whole story of the meet today. George Washington was well prepared and were great all day. Our group battled through a lot of illness this week. We asked some people to step up and pick up their teammates and they really showed up. I’m really proud of where we are at this point in the season.” – Head Coach Jack Leavitt on today’s meet.

WOMEN’S HIGHLIGHTS

  • In the 200 medley relay Cali Oyerly, Angelica RealiGenevieve Youngman and Ines Lovato captured first place with a time of 1:43.15.
  • Youngman placed first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.56.
  • In the 200 butterfly, Reali finished second with a time of 2:01.16.
  • Lovato took second in the 100 free with a time of 52.08.
  • In the 200 breaststroke, Alex Breuer placed second with a time of 2:21.40.
  • Allie Sanchez and Sammy Hagberg finished second and third in the 200 backstroke with times of 2:02.14 and 2:03.53, respectively.

MEN’S HIGHLIGHTS

  • In the 100 breaststroke, Bailey De Luise placed second with a time of 55.28.
  • In the 100 free, Owen Watkins earned first place with a time of 45.41.
  • Watkins and Connor Brennan finished second and third in the 50 free with times of 20.46 and 20.38, respectively.
  • Nick Pezzella placed second in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:02.83.
  • In the 500 free, Gabe Gonda placed second with a time of 4:35.46.
