WASHINGTON D.C. – The Georgetown University swimming & diving team opened the 2019-20 season on Thursday evening, coming away with an impressive sweep of visiting Towson University at McCarthy Pool. In a meet that came down to the final two races on both sides, the GU men and women posted identical 155-145 victories over the Tigers.
HOYA WOMEN
- With Towson holding a slight lead with two races left, freshman Ali Robertson came up with a huge win in the 200-yard IM, touching the wall just .12 seconds ahead of her Towson counterpart in 2:07.91, to give the Hoyas nine huge points.
- Georgetown then took second and third in the final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay, to seal the win.
- The trio of Corey Moon, Cristina Barrett and Ryan Evangelista combined to sweep the top two spots in both the 1,000- and 500-yard freestyles. Moon claimed both golds while Barrett and Evangelista alternated second- and third-place finishes.
- Grace Chen picked up the win in the 100-yard backstroke, touching in 58.74 seconds.
- Belinda Donohoe beat a quartet of Tigers in the 50-yard freestyle, winning with a time of 24.17 seconds.
- On the diving boards, Margaret Barnhorst finished first on the 1-meter board with Riley Fujioka right behind her in second. The duo switched places in the 3-meter event with Fujioka picking up the win.
GEORGETOWN MEN
- The Hoyas held a slim five-point lead going into the last two events of the meet before Drew Carbone and Brett Sherman essentially sealed the victory with a 1-2 finish in the 200-yard IM.
- In addition to his win in the 200 IM, Carbone also claimed individual victories in both backstroke events.
- Sherman also came away with multiple wins, touching the wall first in both the 200- and 500-yard freestyle races.
- Michael Wheeler won the 1,000-yard freestyle while finishing just .21 seconds behind Sherman in the 500 free.
- Connor Morikawa and Carlson Temple both came away with tight victories in the 100- and 200-yard breaststrokes, respectively, to sweep the event for the Hoyas.
- Griffin Edmonds won the 3-meter dive with a score of 250.50 and finished second on the 1-meter board.
COMING UP NEXT
The Hoyas will be right back in action next week when they make the short trip to American University for a dual meet on Friday, Oct. 18. Racing will start at 5 p.m.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a very close meet on Thursday evening, the Towson University men’s swimming and diving team fell to Georgetown 155-145.
The Tigers had seven first-place victories inside McCarthy Pool.
How it Happened
- The foursome of Owen Robinson, Ryan O’Leary, Nick McClure and Matt Essing was victorious in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:33.24.
- Drew Munson finished in second place in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:51.06. Ryan Bookstein came in third (9:58.72) and Brendan Farrar came in fourth (10:00.05).
- Michael Fazio and Matt Kenney had a second (1:43.46) and third (1:44.37) place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, respectively.
- Owen Robinson saw a second place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 51:43.
- Noah Diacumakos finished in second (58.57) in the 100-yard breaststroke.
- The Tigers saw a 1-2 finish in the 200-yard butterfly after McClure came in first (1:52.94) and Patrick Flint finished second (1:57.39).
- Essing was victorious in the 50-yard freestyle (21.00).
- Ajani Dorner won the 1-meter diving portion with a score of 252.98. Will Canny came in third (235.13).
- Essing won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 46.86. Fazio finished in second (47.02).
- Robinson saw second place in the 200-yard backstroke (1:48.02).
- Diacumakos was second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:06.30.
- Kenney came in third place in the 500-yard freestyle (4:44.46).
- With a time of 51.29, McClure won the 100-yard butterfly.
- Canny came in second in the 3-meter diving with a score of 247.20. Dorner came in third wihtt a score of 231.67.
- Diacumakos finished in third in the 200-yard IM (1:54.95).
- Fazio, Robinson, Adkins and Essing captured first in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:06.95.
It was tight races all night for the Towson University women’s swimming and diving team but Georgetown came out on top with a final score of 155-145 to defeat the Tigers Thursday evening.
Inside the McCarthy Pool, the Tigers had nine first-place victories led by Anniemarie Schnoor with four wins apiece in her events.
How it Happened
- The 200-yard medley relay comprised of Alex Diacumakos, Jacki Schoening, Maddi Mangum and Schnoor captured first-place with a time of 1:45.63.
- Elise Devlin, Katie Nunez, Andrea Ducar and Madison Mince finished in fourth in the same event.
- Meghan Jones and Meagan Clark had fourth (10:38.77) and fifth (10:43.08) place finishes in the 1000-yard freestyle, respectively.
- Schnoor was victorious in the 200-yard freestyle after finishing with a time of 1:53.00. Nunez finished in third (1:56.87).
- Reagan Martin and Elise Devlin had second (59.38) and third (59.60) place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke, respectively.
- With a time of 1:03. 84 Schoening captured first place in the 100-yard breaststroke.
- In her signature event, Megan Cowan won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:06.02. Sarah-Margaret Locke came in second (2:08.52).
- The duo’s of Maddie’s had tied in the 50-yard freestyle. Maddi Mangum and Madison Mince both saw second place (24.78). Kayla Reedy finished fourth (25.02) and Hailey Ritter finished in fifth (25.14).
- In the 1-meter diving Sarah DiGaetano came in fifth with a score of 206.10.
- Schnoor also won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.97.
- Diacumakos was victorious in the 200-yard backstroke (2:06.69). Martin came in second with a time of 2:06.78.
- Schoening won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:20.56.
- Jones came in fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:08.82).
- Ducar saw her first colligate win in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.37. Cowan finished in third (58.58).
- Christina Coleman came in third in the 3-meter diving with a score of 238.35.
- Cowan finished in second in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:08.03.
- The foursome of Nunez, Reedy, Mangum and Schnoor won the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:32.72.

Towson heads to Annapolis, Maryland to compete in a quad meet with Navy, Johns Hopkins and George Washington on Friday, Oct. 18. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. inside Lejeune Hall.
