Georgetown Picks Up Verbal Commitment from NY’s Grace Chen

Two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American Grace Chen has announced her verbal commitment to swim for Georgetown University in the fall, where she will join Gabriella Meringolo and Shaun Johnson in the class of 2022.

“So excited to announce my commitment to swim at Georgetown University next year!  Thank you so much to my friends, family, and coaches for all of the love and support!!”

Chen is a senior at Fairport High School, with whom she competed at the New York State Public HS Girls Swimming Championships last November. She placed fourth in the 100 back (55.86) and eighth in the 100 free (52.31), led off Fairport’s fourth-place 200 medley relay (25.86) and anchored their 12th-place 400 free relay (52.03). She also picked up a PB in the 200 IM during high school season (2:08.61).

Chen swims year-round for Fairport Area Swim Team (FAST); in addition to free and back, she specializes in fly and IM. She competed in her third USA Swimming Winter Junior Nationals in Knoxville in December, earning a PB in the 200 free, then wrapped up her 2017-18 short course season with an outstanding pair of meets in March at Niagara Swimming LSC Short Course Championships and TYR ISCA Junior Championship. Together, the meets accounted for new PBs in the 50/100 back, 50/100 fly, and 100 IM. Last summer she posted career-best times at Geneva Futures in the 100 free (1:01.54), 100 back (1:05.14), and 200 back (2:28.74); she placed 10th overall in the 100 back.

Top SCY times:

  • 50 back – 25.61
  • 100 back – 55.00
  • 200 back – 2:03.71
  • 50 free – 24.29
  • 100 free – 52.31
  • 100 fly – 57.62
  • 200 IM – 2:08.61

Chen would have scored points for Georgetown at the 2018 Big East Championships in the 100 back (A final), 200 back (B final), 100 fly (B final), and 200 IM (B final).
