DAVIDSON — Signs of progress all around.

That’s what Davidson swim coach John Young saw in Saturday’s home meet with Georgetown, as the Wildcats emerged with 17 event wins against the Hoyas.

“I really couldn’t be more proud of the women’s performance today,” said Young. “And the men have a lot to be excited about from today.”

Davidson’s Sarah Helen Shepherd won three events, touching the wall first in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.09), the 200 breaststroke (2:22.33) and the 200 IM (2:06.40).

“She’s been a rock for us, leading the way,” said Young.

Siena Senn added wins in the 200 free (1:54.16) and 500 free (5:05.50), and Julia Goodhead swept the backstroke events, winning the 100 in 57.69 and the 200 in 2:06.80. Abby Francis won the 100 free in 52.77.

Francis and Goodhead joined Hope Carpenter and Olivia Stanley to win the 4×50 medley relay (1:47.16), and Goodhead, Stanley, Anna Linzell and Kate Pottle  swam to first in the 4×50 free relay (1:38.73).

On the men’s side, diver Daniel Valmassei swept the one- and three- meter competitions compiling 302.18 and 274.65 points, respectively.

“Again, Daniel stood out on the diving board and grabbed us a bunch of points,” said Young.

Kilian Quinn won the 50 free (21.79), and Walter Dauksher won the 100 free (47.37). Alex Strasser won the 100 fly in 50.82, and Ian Hentenaar added a win in the 200 fly (1:56.51).

Dauksher, Quinn, Kevin Andrews and Brian Hynes closed the meet with a win in the 4×50 free relay (1:25.12), in what Young sees as a momentum-building performance going forward.

The Hoyas edged the Wildcats 149-145 in the women’s team standings and 166-132 in the men’s tally.
