Georgetown University Receives Verbal from IM Specialist Tia Thomas for 2021

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Tia Thomas of Silver Spring, MD has verbally committed to swim for the Georgetown University Hoyas beginning in the 2021-2022 season. Thomas is a senior at Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart and she is a year-round swimmer at Rockville Montgomery Swim Club.

I am so happy to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and swimming career at Georgetown University! I would like to thank my family, friends, and coaches for supporting me along this journey. #hoyasaxa

In January, Thomas swam at the National Catholic Swimming and Diving Championships. The Stone Ridge School junior swam the 100 and 200 free as well as 2 relays. She took the top spot in the prelims heats of the 100 free with a time of 52.46. She extended her lead in finals, touching 0.89 seconds ahead of silver medalist Alexandra Volk of Notre Dame Prep, clocking in at 52.06. Her 200 free prelims time of 1:54.94 placed her second going into finals. She earned the silver medal in finals behind Convent of the Sacred Heart’s Alexandra Bastone, finishing in a personal best time of 1:52.95.

Thomas swam the third leg of Stone Ridge’s 400 free relay which earned the silver medal and she anchored their 200 free relay which finished third.

Thomas has Futures qualifying times in the 50 and 100 yard free, the 100 yard fly and back, and the 100 meter free.

Top SCY Times:

  • 50 free – 23.73
  • 100 free – 51.78
  • 200 free – 1:52.95
  • 200 IM – 2:08.92
  • 50 fly – 26.00
  • 100 fly – 56.64
  • 200 back – 2:03.07

Thomas will join the 2020 Big East Conference Championship runners-up in the fall of 2021. She will be one of the team’s top butterfliers and backstrokers. Her 50 fly time would have been the women’s team’s fastest, making her a likely option to swim on the 200 medley relay. Her 100 fly time would have placed her third behind Lauren Henasey and Gabriella Meringolo. Thomas will get a chance to swim alongside Meringolo for one year, while Henasey graduated in the spring of 2020. Thomas’ 200 back would have been the team’s third-fastest behind Phoebe Slaughter and Evie Mauze, both of whom are graduating in the spring of 2021.

Thomas’ top times would have place her in the B-final of the 100 fly, 100 and 200 back, and 200 free at the 2020 Big East Champs. She would have earned a spot in the A-final of the 50 and 100 free.

Thomas will join back and IM specialist Maddie Haley as a member of the class of 2025.
