The Georgia women’s swimming team will launch the 2014-15 season with a rare September meet against Vanderbilt on Wednesday at Gabrielsen Natatorium.
Wednesday’s meet will begin at 3 p.m. and admission is free.
The Georgia men will not be competing, but they will have an intrasquad event between the women’s races. There also will be no diving on Wednesday.
“We’re looking forward to Wednesday’s meet,” said Harvey Humphries, Georgia’s Acting Head Coach. “It’s like any sport in that you practice and practice and you look forward to competing against someone else. It’s early in the training, but you always get excited when you can race someone.”
“We’re all really excited to get the season started,” senior Lauren Harrington said. “Our team has been training hard and racing hard at practice. There’s a lot of talent and I think we have great potential.”
The Lady Bulldogs have won two straight NCAA and five consecutive SEC championships. Georgia returns 11 All-Americans from 2013-14, including individual national champions Brittany MacLean and Olivia Smoliga.
Traditionally, Georgia opens its season in October. Last year’s Sept. 24 meet against Kentucky was the earliest meet in school history and Wednesday’s meet will match that date.
The Lady Bulldogs have one of their largest senior classes in recent years with Harrington, Olivia Boggs, Maddie Locus, Jordan Mattern, Amber McDermott, Anna Neumeister, Darcie O’Brien, Shannon O’Malley, Courtney Peters and Nicole Vernon.
Vanderbilt has two Georgia natives on its roster: Rachel Koch of Peachtree Corners and Christina Wang of Duluth.
The Lady Bulldogs will be looking to extend their Georgia all-sports record home win streak on Wednesday. They have won 89 consecutive dual/tri meets and are 90-1 all-time in Gabrielsen Natatorium since it opened in 1995.

What are the woman doing tomorrow? irrelevant… I’m paying good money to sit in Ramsey to watch the black team do unspeakable things to the red team in the water.
The girls look to be in good form to cheer on the real meet: Red Squad vs. the Practice Squad (formally known as Black Team).
Yeah no one cares about the woman’s meet…. the black team is going to slap around the red team like children
More importantly, red team will be getting crushed by the black team on the guys side.
