Cal utility Georgia Gilmore will return to the Cal women’s water program for the 2022 season, head coach Coralie Simmons announced.
Gilmore, who played in just four games last season due to injury, is utilizing the season of competition waiver that the NCAA granted to spring sport student-athletes after competitions were cancelled in 2020 due to COVID-19.
“Georgia’s return will add dynamite to our squad in a number of categories,” Simmons said. “She came into the 2021 season strong and motivated but unfortunately her season was cut short due to injury. We look forward to seeing her back in action and adding spunk and strength to our Golden Bear squad. She knows the system and will capitalize on experience and determination.”
After coming off her best season with 12 goals, 31 drawn exclusions and six steals in 18 games played as a junior, Gilmore was expected to be a key ingredient to the Bears’ success in 2021. She got off to a hot start with six goals in her first four games but didn’t play again due to injury.
Gilmore will be a student in the Berkeley Extension Certificate Program in Business Administration during the 2021-22 school year. She is a three-time MPSF All-Academic honoree.
